Status: offline 		I like to watch NFL Game Day, on the NFL network.  I can watch that for hours leading up to the Sunday 1pm game.  And if I'm doing something else, it's on in the background.  When I'm with my Dom, we watch Reliable Sources on CNN, which is a good show that criticizes (good and bad) the media, just mentioning it here, because it breaks into my regularly scheduled programming.       Anyway, the guy I can't stand is:  Michael Irvin, argh.

edit to add.....oops, sorry, I forgot, he's one of yours.

Status: offline 		I like the pre-pregame show -- NFL Matchup with Ron Jaworski and Merrill Hoge. That is really neat to see how they break down plays from the coaches tapes. The other shows are just guys competing to see who can talk the loudest about not much at all.

Offenses tend toward inconsistency, save for the Colts, but defenses are a reliable predictor of success.

Chicago will remain stout, and I see them grounding the Giants this weekend.

As for Super Bowl predictions, count me on the Colts bandwagon, although the curse of leaving Baltimore in the middle of the night may sack them yet again. The Colts have won: AT DENVER, AT NEW ENGLAND, AND AT NY.

Status: offline 		He's not a tackle-to-tackle runner; he relies on speed and finesse, and linebackers are a bazillion times faster in the pros than in college.  I still think he's a great talent and New Orleans is using him wisely, but it was silly to project him as the next Barry Sanders.

Another problem with Bush, one that I think he'll address over time: he likes to run east-west.  That worked in college, where he could fake out an entire team, but in the pros, it adds up to a lot of two yard losses.

LaM has already answered that about Bush; I'll add that I think Bush is just a more recent version of Peter Warrick who was a Heisman contender until his little "shopping" expedition with Laverneus Coles.

Here are a few more similar questions:

Q: Why was Pete Carroll a mediocre coach in the NFL but seems like a genius now
A: (as answered by Lou Holtz) Because in the NFL he only got 1 first round pick per year; at USC he gets 25.

Q: Why was Steve Superior a failure in the NFL
A: Because Vanderbilt and other lightweights aren't on the schedule

Q: Why did Ryan Leaf, Akili Smith, Heath Schuler, Tim Couch, Ron Dayne, Tony Mandarich, and countless others amount to nothing in the NFL after being stars in college and high draft picks?
A: It is a lot easier to succeed in college football especially if you are on a team that has more talent than the teams you play.

Status: offline 		Yep, sports forecasters repeat over and over again that playing in the pros just isn't anywhere near like playing in college, and it doesn't matter how good your college team played.  It's a faster paced game, everyone knows (for the most part) what they are doing, and they hit much harder and more quickly.  I would never count out any player for having a sucky year as a rookie, there is so much to learn, and even moreso for a qb, it's daunting to learn everything in a few weeks, which is basically what they are asked to do.

How many Players are at the college level? How many jobs ae available in the NFL?
The NFL comprises of the top 1500 or so football players available and about 250 get drafted each year.

The one thing mentioned by most rookies is how much faster the game is on the NFL level. If they can't keep up they're gone. The players are faster, stronger, BIGGER and
a lot smarter with sharper instincts. the absolute cream of football players.

Yep, gotta love that as well.

No, I don't own a terrible towel, but I should.  I am a fan win or lose.  Your team can't be at the top every year.  So the best the Steelers can do is make a run at the second half of the season, and in all liklihood get nowhere, because there are too many good teams in the AFC.  Last year was a fluke, in many ways, we were the sixth seed, but made some history, so it was all good.  I think this season belongs to someone else.  And if we can spoil it for a few of our "friends" in the AFC, all the better.

Last I checked, the Browns are still in Cleveland.

Technically yes, there is a team called the Browns, and their records remain intact in Cleveland.  But the *real* team was moved to Baltimore and re-named the Ravens.

Status: offline 		There's a lot to this, but I'm convinced that attitude and work ethic have a lot to do with it too.  You have to work harder to be a successful pro, and not every athlete can handle the pressure.  For example, I wasn't so sure that Peyton Manning was going to be all that he was cracked up to be coming out of Tennessee--well, I was shall-we-say incorrect about that, and I'm convinced that part of the reason for his success has been his attitude/work ethic.  Couch and Dayne weren't total busts, but the attitudes on Leaf, Akili Smith, and Mandarich were legendary.
