PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Assistant head coach Russ Grimm has emerged as the front-runner for the Pittsburgh Steelers' coaching job, a search that was narrowed to three finalists Monday after offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt left for Arizona.
The Steelers identified Grimm, a Pittsburgh assistant for six years, and defensive coordinators Mike Tomlin of the Minnesota Vikings and Ron Rivera of the Chicago Bears as the finalists. Georgia Tech coach Chan Gailey is no longer being considered.

The "Marty Watch" begins in San Diego:

Yep, people are freaking because Whiz may take Whipple with him.  From sports radio this evening:  "What will the Steelers do?"  "How will this impact next season and the seasons to follow?"  "Did the Rooney's make a mistake in letting Whisenhunt go?"  "Will they offer the job to Grimm?"  "What are they waiting for?"  Sheesh, I'm starting to get tired of it and I can't believe I said that.

lol Katy, "America's Real Team"........ For this season, I'll grant them that.

So, you're a sports radio fan, eh? I used to be, until the Oilers were leaving Houston, things were so negative that it kinda turned me off to it.

I wouldn't say I am a big sports radio fan, but I like to listen to the local station and get the latest on the Steelers.  As far as other sports, I don't follow anything else.

About the play-calling comment: I really don't think it would have mattered. The Ravens' offense was stymied all day and I don't think they were going to win that game no matter what plays they called. I was quite surprised.

Well, one could argue it was snake-bitten. When Baltimore loses the turnover battle, it generally loses.

Its a big "if" I know, but if McNair had been able to punch it into the endzone, Balto. goes up 10-6.

Heap's fumble. Clayton's Fumble (on a long 40 yd TD). Two INTs.

It was pretty much a horrible way to end the season. The Balto. defense was absolutely stellar v. the Colts, and it was not rewarded. Jamal Lewis also is a shadow of his former self. It makes me wonder how long Larry Johnson will be able to keep it going in SD.

The SD game, now that was a horror show for the SD faithful. That team played about the dumbest football I've seen displayed in the playoffs.

At this juncture, its safe to say the Colts are the hot team, and its defense is reminding folks of its play making ability displayed in the 2005 season.

Assorted news:

NEW YORK (AP) - Brain damage caused on the football field ultimately led to the suicide of former NFL defensive back Andre Waters, according to a forensic pathologist who studied Waters' brain tissue.
Bennet Omalu of the University of Pittsburgh told The New York Times that Waters' brain tissue resembled that of an 85-year-old man and that there were characteristics of early stage Alzheimer's. Omalu told the newspaper he believed the damage was related to multiple concussions Waters sustained during his 12-year NFL career with the Philadelphia Eagles and Arizona Cardinals.

Waters was 44 when he committed suicide last November.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) - New England Patriots safety Rodney Harrison practiced Thursday, stretching his injured right knee that kept him out of the first two playoff games. Harrison had been listed Wednesday as doubtful for Sunday's AFC championship game at Indianapolis. An updated injury report was to be issued Thursday http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/6381506
IRVING, Texas (AP) - Nearly two weeks after the Dallas Cowboys' season ended, Bill Parcells still hasn't decided whether he wants to keep coaching. Jerry Jones has told Parcells to take all the time he wants. At least, until the Feb. 1 deadline that's in his contract.
Fans aren't as patient. Their need for an answer, one way or another, grows each day. His status remains the most-talked-about topic on local sports radio, with shows treating it like a hostage situation: Day X of Dallas under siege. (Thursday was Day 12)

San Diego Chargers wide receivers coach James Lofton interviewed Tuesday for a second straight year for the Oakland Raiders head coaching vacancy.
Lofton, a Hall of Fame receiver, met Tuesday with Oakland owner Al Davis and other team executives to discuss replacing the fired Art Shell as coach. Lofton was one of the candidates last year when Shell was hired to replace Norv Turner.

Great article, Katy. Don't you just know the Dolphins kicked themselves in the ass all year long for not jumping on Brees when they had the chance?

Yes, and I like that thought!  I'm glad that Brees has had such an outstanding year.  I'm sure Marty is sobbing somewhere too.  He wanted to keep him.

DAVIE, Fla. (AP) - Cam Cameron will try to succeed where Nick Saban failed - with the Miami Dolphins.
Miami concluded a two-week coaching search Friday, hiring Cameron, the San Diego Chargers' offensive coordinator the past five seasons.

They call Alabama the crimson tide.....call me deacon blues.

One day away from the championship games.  My life would be almost complete if I had an invite to a football party with lots of good food and drink (and lots of yelling at the tv screen, of course).

Its a shame the only place the Saints are going after Sunday is back to New Orleans.  It will be a rematch from 21 years ago.... Bears vs Patriots.

The Saints made a hell of a run at it, and the effects they had on the city was amazing to see.  Too bad that it isn't a Disney movie or they might have a better chance.

I hereby declare the "hot team" (aka, the Steelers of 06) the Indianapolis Colts. At this point, I pick them to win the whole thing.
