'Pacman' Jones buys full-page newspaper ad for letter to fans

April 20, 2007

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Suspended Tennessee Titans cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones bought a full-page newspaper advertisement to print an open letter in which he promised to regain the trust of his team and fans.

That sounds rather vague rather than addressing specific issues.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - By next Friday, Jason David will know whether he'll spend the next four years in Indianapolis or New Orleans.
Either way, he'll be a rich, happy man. David signed a four-year offer sheet with New Orleans on Thursday, a deal agent Cary Fabrikant said would change David's life.

"Right now, Jason is in a great situation," Fabrikant said Friday. "The Colts could be in a great situation and the Saints are in the same situation."

It all depends on what the Colts decide.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Bill Cowher was missing, but perhaps not universally missed given an unexpected but telling comment by Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger
Joey Porter wasn't around, either, as was easily discernible in a much-quieter-than-usual locker room.

Alan Faneca was absent, too, though for entirely different reasons than Porter, a situation that could prove to be Mike Tomlin's first test as the new Steelers coach.

Cowher and Big Ben not big buddies?  I had no clue about that one.
Faneca has missed practice but it's been voluntary.  He's evidently in a snit about both his contract and Russ Grimm being passed over.  We won't worry unless he becomes a hold out when the mandatory stuff starts.

i sure hope the Colts keep David.  We have lost an amazing number of free agents this offseason.

Remember, my friends, the draft is Saturday [:D]

MONTCLAIR, N.J. (AP) - Michael Strahan's ex-wife held a garage sale at her Montclair mansion, allowing bargain hunters to sift through and cart away castoffs from her marriage to the New York Giants defensive end.
Items on sale outside the $3.6 million home on Saturday included cocktail dresses, a bronze football statue, handmade rugs, antiques and a set of cassette tapes on how to make relationships succeed.

Diehard Giants fan and Montclair resident Jamal Callaway walked away with two televisions, with 32- and 20-inch screens, for $100.

"I get to cheer for Mike on his TV," Callaway told The Star-Ledger of Newark.

When asked if the televisions were flat screens, he replied: "She's not that mad at him."

Jean Strahan is fighting to get the $6.5 million she says her ex-husband owes her following their 2005 divorce, a legal proceeding that became notorious for its mudslinging. In court papers filed last month, she said she can't afford to keep the 30-room mansion, which has an eight-car garage and clear views of the New York skyline.

In January, a judge awarded her $15.3 million and set child support at $18,000 a month. Michael Strahan has paid more than half the money, but is arguing that the remaining $6.5 million is too much.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) -- Chicago Bears general manager Jerry Angelo denied the team has been involved in trade talks regarding disgruntled linebacker Lance Briggs.

"I've not heard anything official from anybody," Angelo said Wednesday at a news conference to discuss this weekend's NFL draft.

This is supposed to be the year that NFL teams emphasize character in the draft. And maybe it will be.

This is supposed to be the year when it doesn't matter how fast players run if they end up in a prison cell. And maybe it will be.

This is supposed to be the year that fans finally decide enough is enough, and insist that their teams be filled with law-abiding citizens.

Fat chance of that.

Michale Vick misses his date with Congress:

Dante Hall traded:

This move surprised me. He's a very good return guy. I'm thinking he didn't pan out as well as KC thought as a WR, and they are pretty weak at that position.

Gossip, we all love gossip.... here's a some juicy rumors about the draft [:D]. Scroll down for some Brady Quinn rumors

I think ya'll have a good chance at him, Katy, but some are thinking the Bills will nab him first.

12. Buffalo Bills – Penn State linebacker Paul Pozluszny. Pozluszny, who played in a scheme last season similar to that of the Bills', has ideal intangibles and it is believed that head coach Dick Jauron might prefer him over Patrick Willis.

15. Pittsburgh Steelers – Florida State linebacker Lawrence Timmons. The Steelers, who are likely to have a heavy defensive draft, could wait for a defensive back until later on the first day and opt for an outside linebacker like Timmons. He would be a good fit as they make the move towards a Tampa 2 scheme over the next few years. Head coach Mike Tomlin sees Timmons as being a guy that can become a Derrick Brooks-type playmaker that his defense needs in order to be successful.

Excellent links, mb, thank you [;)]

I can feel it in my bones, Jerry wants to make a splash lol. I think he held back a bit with Parcells around, didn't want to spook him, but now all bets are off.

maybemaybenot -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (4/25/2007 8:06:07 PM)

YVW. If I rememebr correctly from Parcells days here in NE, part of Parcells deal was full control over draft and personnel ? I know Jones is a bit of a control freak owner and has his finger in all the pies. Did he give Parcells full control when he was in Dallas?

Parcells had a great deal of control, but total? No, I truly doubt it. Just think about TO and Vanderhole..... neither fits the Bill Parcells kind of guy mold, but Jones salivated over both of them. Here's a bit on who ran who, from a blog; it sounds about right to me.

"First, let me make it clear I am not bashing Jerry Jones, but during Parcells' reign did we ever see Jerry hold a pre-draft declaration as he did today in his latest press conference. I think Jerry was very definitive in this latest PC; moreover, he pretty much let it be known that he is back and in FULL control come draft day.

Sure, we heard there will be input by the scouts, Ireland, and Coaches, but let's be real. Parcells had huge control on who we drafted during his tenure. The only thing that should concern some fans is the history of Jerry Jones' drafts. Jimmy and Bill had their control, but rest assured, the big boss is back in full control. Let's hope he has learned from past draft class busts and lead us with another solid draft."

SMITHFIELD, Va. (AP) - Police conducting a drug investigation raided a house owned by Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick and found dozens of dogs, some injured and emaciated.
Police also found items associated with dog fighting.

State Police Sgt. D.S. Carr said Vick's relative, Davon Boddie, 26, lives in the house. Vick owns the property, but doesn't live there and wasn't present when a search warrant was executed in a drug investigation Wednesday night, Carr said.

The New Orleans Saints will have about four hours to kill before making their first selection in Saturday's draft, but that didn't stop them from making a move Thursday.
The Saints and defensive end Charles Grant have agreed to a seven-year deal that includes a whopping $20 million in guaranteed money, FOXSports.com has learned.

The Saints had made Grant their franchise player this off-season, but that tag comes off with the new contract.
Grant had 62 tackles for New Orleans in 2006 to go along with six sacks and three forced fumbles. He also had five passes defensed.

The Georgia grad, who is entering his sixth season in the league, made just under $650,000 last year.

The colts let David go the Saints.  Pollian said today no decision was made which in itself is a decision to let him go.

"The last time the Steelers had the 15th pick in the NFL Draft, they took a pass-rushing outside linebacker who tormented opposing quarterbacks in college.

As for Huey Richardson working out in Pittsburgh, well, not so much.

He lasted about as long as a "Huey Lewis & the News" concert, and the Steelers haven't used their top draft pick on a linebacker since they made that colossal mistake with Richardson in 1991. "

http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/sports/steelers/s_503933.html

Considering how much the Patriots [team stats] value the cloak and dagger approach, the question is intriguing: Do they use their pre-draft visits as subterfuge to steer attention from the prospects they actually covet?

A juicy theory, but not one rooted in reality. While the Patriots may occasionally employ such misdirection, an examination of their top picks during the Bill Belichick era reveals that most such prospects had already been to Foxboro.

Of the 14 players selected in the first two rounds since 2000, eight came to town for pre-draft visits and six didn’t. The reasons to host a prospect range from wanting to get a better personal feel for a player to exploring a red flag that popped up during a physical.
