popeye1250 -> "Change?" (10/23/2006 12:23:33 PM)

I just got three e-mails, one from Stephen King, one from Sen. Ted Kennedy another from Sen. John Kerry talking about how we need "Change" in this country and asking me to vote for Democrats in the upcomming election.
How are we going to "Change" things in this country by swapping Democrats for Republicans or vice versa every few years?
And Kerry has been in politics for some 35 years! Does anyone think he wants to "Change" anything?
When he and Michael Dukakis were Lt. Governor/Governor they took the "Massachusetts Miracle" and turned it into the Massachusetts Massacre with jobs and businesses moving out of the state en mass.
The only thing that would "Change" under the Democrats are the names on the checks from the Lobbyists on K street in Washington.
And how is Ted Kennedy considered a "Progressive?"
Is that the name of his insurance company or the status of his alchoholism?
Ted Kennedy, after FOURTY FOUR YEARS in a drunken stupor  in office is a "progressive" and is going to "change" things?
What's he going to "change",  from Chivas Regal to Johnny Walker Black? (I ahhhh, ahhhh, ahhhhhh think,.............. Rah, Rah, Rah!")
Ted reminds me of one of those "screamers" that you see occaisionally on street corners, brain addled from alchohol yelling at everyone who passes by until the Cops finally "PC" them for 4 hours.
Two fucking political DINOSAUERS and now they're for "change?" They call themselves "Progressives?"
"Re-gressive" certainly.
"Change", ...two dimes and a nickel for a quarter. That will be about the extent of their "change."
With only two political partys in office it's like a see-saw, one party is up, then the other and you never "go" anywhere!
The e-mails also said we need to send a "wake-up" call to Washington.
Oh I fully intend to do that!
If it says "R" or "D" behind someone's name they won't be getting my vote!
And if there's only "R" or "D" I'll vote for neither!
Lou Dobbs of CNN is urging people to vote Independant to send a real wake-up call to Washington!
That's what I'll be doing!
Now, as for Stephen King, what's that all about?
Stephen King is a Democrat?
Now THAT'S scary!!!!
I thought he was intelligent.
Your thoughts please!

Gov Rendell called me the other night.  Well, it wasn't really him, but it was a recording of him.

I'd say it's more like a glacier..... things move, but usually at a snail's pace.

I voted this morning.....I'd guess it came out about 50% Independent, 35% Democrat, and 15% Republican.

toservez -> RE: "Change?" (10/23/2006 1:00:00 PM)

It can be quite the depressing thing as any radical change is certainly remote. Money talks and what popeye wrote was accurate.The money just goes from one unethical greedy group to another.

The one thing though I think can be changed is the polarlization of the agendas. Most people Dems or Reps identifiy more in the middle but the current government is being run by the extremists. I do think we as people by restoring checks and balances can help this, and I also think it is important to get moderates from both groups into office which we can do with a more informed and active voters.

To me zealots like King George, and if the Dems actually had an effective leader I would name them, are dangerous for our country. Things like compromise, compassion and being able to recognize mistakes and try to correct them are lost on them. They are right and that all that matters. It is just dangerous.

The "I'm right" thing is prevalent on both sides, as you say. You see shitloads of it here at CM, and you know it isn't contained to just here [;)]. I think you're right about the need to get some more moderates, or at least those willing to entertain compromise in DC, and find a way to get the lobbyists out.

Here here,

As I said in another post ...

"If you are driving across a bridge and you lean too far either left or right, the results are not very good - why can't we elect our leaders using the same rule of thumb?"

popeye1250 -> RE: "Change?" (10/23/2006 1:18:50 PM)

toserve, I've noticed that too.
You always see "Libs" and "Cons" arguing with each other but rarely Greens or Libertarians or Constitutionalists.
It's the Democrats and Republicans who are polarizing the country.
They've been the only two partys in power for many decades now and I just don't see any "change" comming while either of them are in power.
No sense of compromise with those two.

popeye1250 -> RE: "Change?" (10/24/2006 3:54:04 PM)

Yup, it's that time of the year!
Today I got an e-mail from Sen. Barak  Alabama telling me to donate money to the Democrats.
It looks like some of the tinfoil hat crowd want Sen. Barak to run in the Moonbatian Party for President.
Oh, and now the Repubs are on me too!
This afternoon I got an e-mail from Gov. Mitt Romney (R-Mass) telling me that I should give money to and vote for Republicans!
Are you people in here getting deluged with political e-mails as well?
If so who's knocking on your internet door?

Ya'll should know where I stand politically by now. So... nice post!

On the Federal level, only a rare D or R indeed, would get my vote.

If I lived in his district in Texas, I would vote for Ron Paul. He ran for President under the Libertarian Party some years back, but is now serving under the Republican party.

An interesting note: A while ago, his district had been gerrymandered by Tom DeLay specifically to ensure a GOP victory. The only problem for the GOP (again, because of DeLay) is that they have no Republican candidate on the ballot in this hotly contested race.

So there is a real chance for Bob Smither, a Libertarian candidate, to actually win the election this year in that district and become the first Libertarian in Congress!

I have a question.  What happens if after all the votes are counted and let's say they are all evenly divided between all the parties.. dems, reps, libers, greens.. >

Are the greens and libers at the barter of the dem and reps or what?  Is this actually a solution for  a corrupt majority to form or will those votes go to the highest bidder?

Does one of the candidates have a brother who's the governor of a deciding state? ... [;)]

That is correct.

That may temporarily ease the symptoms, but it still doesn't address the cause. Frankly, if anything, putting a band-aid on the problem would probably just lull the masses back to sleep.

Agreed.

I am neither a fan of the Republicans nor the Democrats. However, this current administration is the absolute scariest I've ever seen in my lifetime.

It's funny but "radical change" is just what this country is most in need of.

UtopianRanger -> RE: "Change?" (10/24/2006 10:16:42 PM)

Popeye.....

I turned my ballot in yesterday{ Oregon is vote by mail} I voted for my first democrat ever, Peter Defazio, after I saw that he co-sponsored two libertarian minded bills with Ron Paul And Dennis Kucinich. Every other selection was for a non-incumbent, libertarian or green party member.

On all the measures.... I voted for the side that either takes money out of the governments coffers or takes power and oversight away from unelected bureaucrats.

Ranger, good for you!
One thing is for sure, the more power we give the govt, the more they want and that goes for our money too!

The Green Party - what a bogus group that is - not one of them is green; oh sure, they have people who are all kinds of other colors, but not one green colored person in the bunch.

And people vote for them - must be the blind ;-)

Popeye,

I'm scared about the Steven King involvement.

I hope the Republicans don't find the Pet Cemetery and bury their defeated comrades only to have them spring back to life in even more demonic forms!!!  What is he THINKING!!!!!

texancutie -> RE: "Change?" (10/25/2006 8:28:56 AM)

They already did that with Tom DeLay.  But I suspect it all happened way before he got caught in that little scandal of his...lol.  It must have been an accident or something and they had to bury him and bring him back.  Ever notice how creepy he looks?

Blktall, I don't vote for Dems or Reps.
If you do that you just get more of the same.
I think we really need third partys involved in the govt.
I don't know much about the Green Party (I think they're involved in the environment) but it would be refreshing to see a few of them in congress or the senate!
One thing we really DON'T need is senators in the senate for *44 YEARS* like Kennedy! (Massachusetts is my home state by the way.)
The U.S. Senate has become a "Good Ol' Boy" club.
Most of them have been in there for DECADES!
They are so out-of-touch with the American People that it's a joke.
Hopefully, the People of Massachusetts will do the right thing in two weeks and send him packing.
