In Ohio they are accusing a candidate of not paying his unemployment taxes, and they make it sound despicable, like the $1,700 shortage went into his pocket and took food out of others' children's mouths. Now I do not support this candidtate nor his opponent. I ain''t voting for any of the scumbags, you might almost get me to vote on local issues at gunpoint, but I said MIGHT. X has not paid his unemployment taxes in 13 years. Now the amount in question is $1,700. Is it really that cheap ? Let me tell you this, I do have a bit of familiarity with the law as it applies to business, and as far as I know, unemployment is insurance, and it protects the employer in much the same way workman's comp does. Let us get this straight. On the issue of unemployment "taxes", there is no such thing. It is a private insurance, although they used to get bailed out by the government from time to time. It is not, nor has it ever been mandatory. However, most business owners opt for it because of the indemnification it offers. See, if you dismiss an employee because someone better has come along, usually they would be able to sue you for that, especially if they have been an employee for a long time. Once they file for unemployment compensation, they, right there in the application references, give up the right to sue you and have agreed to go through the system. This is by agreement only, if you do not file for umemployment you do not give up this right. One more of those little known facts. All you lawyers say whatever you want, but this IS still true. On to workman's comp. There is no law that you have to enroll in it, but is you don't, you might be saddled with lawyer bills you really don't want, if someone gets hurt on the job. WC is designed and built to protect the employer. Sometimes even negligence on the part of the employer is swept under the carpet, depends on where you work. Go figure. Alot of people don't realize, but recount the story of my Dad in Nebraska. They had mandatory insurance way before we did here, so of course he didn't have it. A state trooper told the cop "If you arrest him I will arrest you". This is not bullshit. Read the above paragraph again. A state trooper is going to arrest a citty cop because he violates the law. If it didn't violate the law it would be a bunch of bullshit, but it is not. There are so many things people don't know. Smoke pot ? Let's say they institute drug testing where you work. You get popped with dirty piss. Did you know that they CAN'T fire you now ? they might say you're fired, quit writing paycchecks, but you get all that anyway after the court case is settled. All your back pay, everything. They have to pay you for not working because they would not let you work. Your performance was fine, everything was going well, but after a bunch of years, all the sudden, dismissal. You smoked a joint on Saturday night. You mist go. You just let me bend your lawyer's ear, you'll win. DO NOT FILE FOR ANYTHING. Got the picture ? Realistically, the kind of shit I am hooked up with now, we don't care about any of this shit, but I thought maybe some others would like to know. I can back up most of what I say. Just, mainly for today, what I am saying, there is no such thing as unemployment taxes, it is unemployment insurance. It is not mandatrory and never has been. That is it. The way they twist things pisses me off. The incumbents piss me off, then this. This was a fuckup, period. T
