COINTELPRO
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COINTELPRO

"The FBI claims that it no longer undertakes COINTELPRO or COINTELPRO-like operations. However, critics claim that agency programs in the spirit of COINTELPRO target groups like the Committee in Solidarity with the People of El Salvador, Earth First! and the Anti-Globalization Movement."

Follow all the links, there's very solid stuff out there. This is one not to miss:

The bottom line is this:
You are not in charge. We are not in charge. Our votes mean nothing. There is no justice.

Now you must decide what to do.

IN 1985, THE FORBES 400 were worth $221 billion combined. Today, they’re worth $1.13 trillion—more than the GDP of Canada.

THERE’VE BEEN FEW new additions to the Forbes 400. The median household income has also stagnated—at around $44,000.

AMONG THE FORBES 400 who gave to a 2004 presidential campaign, 72% gave to Bush.

IN 2005, there were 9 million American millionaires, a 62% increase since 2002.

IN 2005, 25.7 million Americans received food stamps, a 49% increase since 2000.

ONLY ESTATES worth more than $1.5 million are taxed. That’s less than 1% of all estates. Still, repealing the estate tax will cost the government at least $55 billion a year.

ONLY 3% OF STUDENTS at the top 146 colleges come from families in the bottom income quartile; only 10% come from the bottom half.

BUSH’S TAX CUTS GIVE a 2-child family earning $1 million an extra $86,722—or Harvard tuition, room, board, and an iMac G5 for both kids.

A 2-CHILD family earning $50,000 gets $2,050—or 1/5 the cost of public college for one kid.

(Edit: snipped)

ADJUSTED FOR INFLATION, the federal minimum wage has fallen 42% since its peak in 1968.

IF THE $5.15 HOURLY minimum wage had risen at the same rate as CEO compensation since 1990, it would now stand at $23.03.

...

And so it goes...

Just out of absolute sheer boredom, what are the options of what to do exactly?

Chaingang,

A good, informative post as per usual.

There is an earlier thread on the dopification of the masses. The general consensus was/is that providing we have our reality television and various material items then people aren't interested in hearing the truth - a society ran for some at the expense of others.

Everything you say is happening here too. For example, when Murdoch acquired The Times and Sunday Times it was never referred to the monopolies commission even though he had 4 national newspapers under his control. Neither did he pay any net Corporation Tax on a $1.4billion profit figure in a 10 year period. In return, each one of his newspapers backed the Government and spewed Government propaganda aimed at demonising the opposition.

This information is there for everyone to see (the same as the info in your post) yet it is largely ignored.

The issues we have are cultural and educational. It is going to be a long and radical path to turn it around. Crucially, there has to be a change to the education system which enables children to think for themselves. I recommend making subjects compulsory such as philosophy and propaganda to at least allow children to view the power of propaganda and discuss our responsibilities to others. As subfever said on the same thread, why would the establishment change a system that is working for them? A fair point. Any ideas on how we start on the long, radical path?

I don't trust statistics ...

38% of the time they are a complete lie
23% of the time the data is taken out of context
26% of the time the data is fudged to meet an agenda
16% of the time the data accurately reflects reality
2% of the time the statistics are a joke

Before you reply - think about this one ;-)

Thanks for the info...

This is why elections do not mean to me what they used to, although I still vote.
