jesskitty -> indian music? (10/25/2006 11:18:11 AM)
whenever i'm intersted in trying a new band or genre of music that i've never listened to before i tend to go to allmusic.com for references. but unfortunatly this time allmusic doesn't give out any options, so i decided to ask here since there is a broad group of people here!
i'm interested in starting to listen to music from india and i have no idea where to start! if anyone listens to any music from india, could you please suggest artists that i should listen to? thanks in advance :)

If you can find any Ravi Shankar's (he taught George Harrison) stuff, it may be a pleasant place to start. I like their (what I call country-western) but it is too hard to explain, and I don't have any, I just had a freind that was indian.

R Carlos Nakia - cd Canyon Trilogy Beautiful beautiful flute music
I can't recommend anything specifically, but I like watching the world music video show they have that includes Indian music (Asian and American); there's a link to South Asian music that will list artist names.
