Yes, there is a Pro Domme character who wields a mean flogger!

And if I stopped right there, these are probably enough reasons to
see the new movie SHORTBUS by "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" director
and star, John Cameron Mitchell. But the funny thing is, even with
all the graphic sex and alternative lifestyle themes that would
normally scare away the vanilla world, the straight press is raving
right along with the alternative press! Is it possible that there may
be a movie out that connects EVERYONE?!?

A personal note from John Cameron Mitchell to the BDSM Community

Dear Friends,
I am truly touched by the outpouring of support that has come from
the BDSM community for my new movie SHORTBUS.
When I set out to make this movie, I wanted to explore sex as a
cinematic language in a way that I hadn't seen, where it wasn't
trying to be erotic or horrifying or negative or dreary. The story
itself was created in large part through improvisation with the
actors and the experience taught everybody involved how important it
is to connect, and, as I suspected, sex is just one way of describing
that very strong desire. I think the reason so many of you are
identifying with the movie is that, yes the Pro Domme character
obviously, but more then that, "connection" is such a big part of the
BDSM experience.
Also, the movie is a small act of resistance against Bush and the
America we live in. It's trying to remind people of all the good
things about America and New York, i.e. a refuge for those who aren't
accepted elsewhere, a place of personal _expression, not just
tolerance but acceptance of diversity, individual freedom and
different ways of dealing with conflict than just brute force. I know
the BDSM community has worked hard to protect these liberties over
the last few years.
I also want to thank Bo & Skye from Details Toys for helping us
"connect" with the BDSM scene by consulting on the movie as well as
supplying us with all their great floggers and toys. And, The
Eulenspiegel Society/TES for making such great people and so many
educational opportunities available to the world for the last 35 years.
