For myself I have standards on who I reply back to. The main one by far is that I will not reply to one line and/or copy and paste generic messages period. Especially when they clearly did not read or ignore my profile. If I use the no thank you but no reason why it is usually because I am being polite and not wanting to write something mean spirited or I just found your message and profile so generic that I just in general was not interested. One of the things I quickly learned that I think causes many of us to become harden by the process in writing back, and especially with a reason, it unfortunately causes way too many people to write us back arguing our reason and many times this is where we get the more abusive messages.

I really don't know why people put themselves through it. You only have to read a selection of profiles to see that the majority of people have such a high opinion of themselves and are probably wanting someone they really don't have the assets to attract in real life so why humiliate yourself with people you would probably walk past in r/l?
