POMPEII, Italy - It was the jewel of Pompeii's libertines: a brothel decorated with frescoes of erotic figures believed to be the most popular in the ancient Roman city.

Where do we get to see pics? *grin* Just interested in the historical value, you understand.

popeye1250 -> RE: Ancient brothel restored in Pompeii (10/26/2006 5:25:07 PM)

Yeah, we want pics!

ZenrageTheKeeper -> RE: Ancient brothel restored in Pompeii (10/26/2006 6:40:26 PM)

What do you want? Pictures of naked mummified hookers?

Your kink may not be my kink, but I draw the line at necrophilia.

I guess I should be glad it wasn't a Roman Vomitorium.

YES!

Lorelei115 -> RE: Ancient brothel restored in Pompeii (10/26/2006 7:07:07 PM)

Not the hookers, the frescoes. Duh!

MizSuz -> RE: Ancient brothel restored in Pompeii (10/26/2006 7:08:50 PM)

I haven't been there since the early 70s, but my memory is that the frescos show various sexual activities with various...people and species (can I say that without breaking TOS?)

Thanks! I actually am interested in ancient Greek/Roman history. But I have to say, I did not know the the erect penis symbol was considered a good luck charm. Then again, I consider myself pretty lucky when I see an erect penis.

wild1cfl -> RE: Ancient brothel restored in Pompeii (10/26/2006 7:16:03 PM)

As Julius Caesar said about Gaul the Roman men would say at the brothel:

Veni, Vidi, Vici (and for those who do not understand latin it means, I came, I saw, I conquered)

Someone just asked if someone wanted to see pics of mummified hookers, course I'm gonna respond to that. I have a few homemade pics of mummification (yay full body cling wrap) and am always interested in exchanging with quality potential subs.

I am into ancient Greek history, and also even more so ancient Egyptian history. I had the opportunity to do a fair amount of independent study in high school into ancient Greek history, and also the northern Turkey tribes of women (commonly known as the Amazons). I did a little research into the Berbers in North Africa too, but not as intensively as the northern Turkey tribes.

When we were there a guide pointed out a base relief penis carved in one of the large coblestones in the road/ sidewalks.  It was pointing in the direction of the house.  He said that the reason they did this was so visitors would know the way to the house without having to ask for directions from strangers.

You should have seen my mother on her knees taking pictures of this thing.  Priceless.

Well mummified THAT way is all right. *grin* Its just the dead and mummified ones that someone else seemed to get the wrong idea about.

You are a far better person than I.

The image of my mother on her knees connected with anything sexual makes me want to go to a vomitorium.

<grin> Well, Pompeii is the place for vomitoriums.

You'd have to know my mother.  She was this prim and proper, uptight white woman with a backbone of steel but was a total, blushing mess regarding anything that could be remotely construed as sexual.  The base relief wasn't overt at all so it's not like anyone who didn't know it was there was going to know what she was taking a picture of.  She was five shades of red but determined to get that shot.  It really was priceless.

I wonder if I can find that slide.

Masterofmind1973 -> RE: Ancient brothel restored in Pompeii (10/28/2006 7:30:42 PM)

The great Spike Milligan was in Italy during World War Two and in an Italian city he noticed a brothel with a Roman statue of a man with a set of scales, on one was a lump of gold and the other...his knob! The cock was lower indicating that he valued his lovelength over the gold! As Spike said......wait until he's 80!!!!!

Proof that the marvellous Italians have always had an fantastic interest in sex!

thompsonx -> RE: Ancient brothel restored in Pompeii (10/28/2006 8:49:49 PM)

anything worth doing is worth doing to excess

Being Italian myself I'd have to agree.

As for the statue, the following link (previously posted) has a painting of the same figure.  It's Priapus, God of the phallus and male sexuality.  http://www.borndigital.com/priam.htm

Ah!  So that is where the medical term priaprism comes from as I would listen to one of the side effects announced in those Viagra, Levitra and Cialis commercials on erectile dysfunction.

Yup.  Merriam-Webster's Medical says Priapus and Priapism is:

: an abnormal, more or less persistent, and often painful erection of the penis; especially : one caused by disease rather than sexual desire
Pri·a·pus /prI-'A-p&s/, Greek mythological character. A god of gardens and fertility, Priapus was the son of Aphrodite, who disowned him because he had a grotesque little body with a huge penis. He was a member of the retinue of the god Dionysus and chased after nymphs.
