If you are seriously wanting a professional quality appliance (theatrical term for any type of prosthetic for altering appearance) you need to get in touch with your local theater. Most areas have them, and they usually have at least one member who is involved in mask making. What you have done so far with an off the shelf piece, and makeup that was not specifically designed to be used on latex is quite impressive and shows great creativity, but there are limits to what can be achieved without the proper tools. In the interim, some things you may wish to look into... I don't know how your attaching the appliance, I'd recommend the amonia free liquid latex available at all theatrical suppliers, and most costume shops. Once you've got the nose attached, apply a thin layer of liquid latex over the entire face except of course directly around the eyes. this will give an even base to work on. There are make-ups that are specifically designed to work on latex, however, I'd seriously advise painting the appliance to the color(s) you desire, and you can also using a light gauge needle and working from the back attach whiskers to it (Use a long piece of monofilament, or other semi-stiff line, run half the whisker out on hole, then the other half of the same length out another, this will also give realistic added motion to your make-up) After you get the color just as you want it, apply the desired colors to your face, remembering that subtlety is critical to the overall effect. a good blending brush is your best friend here. Finish with a very light dusting of neutral powder to "set" the makeup, and to give a smooth even finish. The crowning touch (if you can wear them) are cat's eye contact lenses which give you that realistic vertical pupil.
Remember, sensous body movements, long stretchs,etc are the key to a realistic portrayal of a human feline, grace above all else. You may or may not choose to wear your hair covering your ears, and have prosthetics made for the top of your head, depends on the effect you're after.
