i was just having an odd conversation with someone, about selling your soul. And it occurred to me that i don't know if my soul actually belongs to me. My Master is unavailable for input at the moment, so i thought i would ask Y'all. Do You own Your slave's soul as well as her body?

Hard for me to answer that one, because I don't believe in a soul, but if I did, I'd say the answer is yes. I have a feeling this thread is going to get divisive, because some people have very strong opinions about souls, and will probably say that claiming to own someone else's soul (or to have one's soul owned by someone else) is dreadful blasphemy. quote: ORIGINAL: ownedandcollared Do You own Your slave's soul as well as her body?

I can only speak on this as it relates to me. God owns my soul. It was never mine to give to my Master. Master wanted only what was mine to give, and all of it. He owns the essense of me, my body, my mind, my heart. He owns everything I am able to give him.

Speaking for myself only. Master owns my body, my mind, and my heart..but not my soul. My soul is not mine to give, I agree it belongs to God, that is who I gave it to many years ago. I think that some people take that saying in a different way, but this is how I take it. Kasha

I am so glad that the OP put this up!!! I love this concept. I am not religious or overly spiritual but I do believe that there is a concept of energy out there in the ether that we humans are just not wired to understand (eg: Imagine the edge of space, now think a little further, now think a little further, now think a little further...Arrgghh! Wheres the edge?) I believe that the entire universe is made up of a dimension of energry that we do not understand. Every single object, living or inanimate resonates at different frequencies of the same energy. Everything. Rhis is the mystical energy that holds all matter together and yet seperate. I am a human, that is a tree, this is air etc. We are all parts that make up the whole. So I honestly don't believe that ANYONE can own our souls. How can they? We all share each others energy with each other. We have our own source but in reality, we are all part of the big picture together. I know that the religious here will say about God owning our souls and issues of the Holy Spirit. I am not in the slightest bit religious but do respect those that are. Whereas I have come to terms with the fact that my mind is not wired to understand an eternal being and therefore do not 'name' anything, I think that it is beautiful that some people/communities/societies box things and name them 'God', 'Allah', 'Holy Spirit' etc to give them purpose and a belief in better things to aspire to. As a climber, mountaineer and expedition leader I have been lucky enough to have seen some wonderful parts of our natural planet. I have a respect, awe and affinity for the natural world which has led me to contemplate this very subject many times over. Sometimes when I speak to friends about this I can see it in their faces that they're thinking 'Uh-oh, he's gone all weird again. Watch out before he hugs that tree" (lol) but I have a simple way to example what I mean... I say that we are all individual 'packets' of energy (souls) that are all connected as one through different frequencies (me, air, tree, building, air, dog). Usually we don't feel it as our civilised brains are so preconditioned now. But there are times that we can feel it... Walking silently on a spring morning through a forest. Standing ontop of a mountain with the world below you. Being in a stadium when your team wins. Being in a stadium when your team loses! What about on a smaller scale? How many times have you walked into a room where people have been violently argueing and you can feel the electric atmosphere? The saying 'you could cut the air with a knife'. It is all these things, we just have to learn to listen to ourselves and our 'souls' Oops, just realised I've gone into one! lol Sorry, its just that I think that this is a beautiful concept. So in short, NO - WE SHARE THIS WORLD AND EACH OTHER.

I don't believe anyone can own your soul, the body is just a temporary housing for it. Yes the body can be owned but not the soul. At least in my opinion. If someone says they can own your soul, to me that is saying they are God/dess, I'd like to see them prove it. ~Lashra

Noah, you got some very bad advice. Owning souls is a LONG STANDING and legitimate tax strategy. Consider: Who owns souls in our society? I think the biggest long term soul holder is The Catholic Church, either as direct title holder or as holder of a long term beneficial interest which reverts on death of the grantor. And what is the Church? A non-taxable entity! It owns Billions of dollars of real property, intellectual property, cash, etc. and pays nary a dime in taxes. If you are gonna own souls, you should have immediately set yourself up as "High Priest Noah of the Silly Hat" or some such moniker, and created a church of your own (such as "The Almighty Sepulchre of the Silly Hat"). Then you can buy and sell souls with abandon (something I believe John Cardinal Cody, late of Chicago, was accused of). I might point out that this "soul holding" religious racket is NOT limited to Catholics. All faiths may take part under the US Tax code, tho be warned, some outliers (Rev. Moon, the Scientologists) find that their operations are subject to scrutiny. Just a helpful contribution to higher knowledge. You can keep the name of the church for free. Use anything else, I'll be sending a bill. A BIG one. E.

Since all the Catholics I know believe in eternal life I'm a little chary about that death-of-the-grantor interpretation but big props to you for superior legalistic buzz-word stringing. If you're as good with popcorn and cranberries we'll have you over for eggnog and forced labor in a month or so. Really, if anybody deserves some tax sheltering I think it might be the guys who invented hospitals and have run scads of them for public benefit ever since, even while taking responsibility for educating generations of citizen-kids whose parents have continued to render school tax to Ceasar all the while. The clerics today who want to benefit from (or abolish in their favor) the non-establishment clause, enjoy the tax dodge AND get government money for this, that and the other thing ALONG WITH exemption from labor, safety and enviornmental laws ... those are the ones I think most poorly of (ass-fucking the goose that lays the golden egg is just stupid if you ask me. By way of establishing credibility I'll note that I once took a Gadamer seminar with a Jesuit just off the boat after a stint as a Vatican librarian! No doubt he had handed a few dusty volumes to Herr Ratzinger while he was there. I've never boned up on the Moonies or the Scientologists, though, so I'll defer to your greater knowledge in those areas. But I fear we may have strayed from the intended direction of this thread, about which I think some interesting things might be said with tongue out of cheek.
