4-4-2 is more of a defensive lineup, 4 d, 4 midfielders and 2 strikers
3-4-3 is more attacking- 3 people up top, 3 in the back 4 in the middle. You don't see a 3-4-3 all that often...

Offside rule- When your teammate sends you the ball, when it literally leaves his foot, there should be two players from the other team even with or in front of you heading to the goal, one of them being the goalie.

gooddogbenji -> RE: Clearing the air... (10/31/2006 10:28:01 AM)

The offside rule essentially has to do with a player of one team being the closest to the other team's goal (except for the goalie)  What happens is that, for example, a player hangs around the other team's goal and just waits for a ball, which would be considered "for gains" and be an offense.  However, the other possibility is the trap, where the defense all moves forward and leaves someone offside.

Kinda fun to know, but not really needed.

Yours,

benji

Mike will not approve of this latest hijack, all about manly sports.

I think he'd like it better than when we were all planning on ganging up on SissySean and having our way with him. *laugh*

Hey Sean...do you know how to make pumpkin pie by any chance?

Sorry, no I don't. If it can't be cooked on a George Forman grille I don't know how to  cook it.

On a better note, cut out from work early.  And this is still going.

You don't bake?!?!   Well do you at least Dance?  A good (or even pathetically bad) dance can go a long way....

LadyEllen -> RE: Clearing the air... (10/31/2006 10:51:47 AM)

Oh Lorelei! Tis true! There is hope for the USA yet!

You should have seen the offside against Watford over the weekend - unbelievable! There's stripes across the pitch which clearly showed it wasnt offside. Shame 'cause they're struggling and the player scored but it was disallowed.

Then there was a beauty of a player scoring in an apparent offside position - only him in front of the goalie when the ball came forward. It wasnt offside though, as it was a defending player who passed the ball to him. All he had to do was knock it in from 4 feet out!

Did you see anything of the last two England matches I wonder? We played an interesting formation there - 4-2-lose!

Well, I can try to bake, will give it my best, but no promises of what it will look like when it comes out of the oven. (It is the oven you bake in, right?)
As long as pathetically bad dancing is ok, I can get down with the worst of them.
"I'm bringing sexyback"..

Lorelei115 -> RE: Clearing the air... (10/31/2006 10:55:24 AM)

Nope I am actually currently without TV of any sort. Any connection I have to the outside world is through my computer. So I only get to read results, not watch games. *sob sob sob*

LadyEllen -> RE: Clearing the air... (10/31/2006 11:00:34 AM)

No footie!? I dont watch a lot to be honest, but there's a round up on BBC "Match of the Day" which shows all the goals and highlights, (Frank Lampard of Chelsea for example). (90 minutes is too long for me, plus which Rupert Murdoch makes you pay through the nose for full games!). Check the BBC website, as they are doing download for their programmes at the mo and might have got round to MOTD.

Well, we never know how things are goingn to go when they "COME OUT" but hey, that's what started this whole thread anyway right?  LOL

Hey Lorelei, I can easily sleep 15 people at my home, so you wouldn't have to make the trip there and back, you'd be welcome to stay a day or two :)  *grin* so when do we GangSpank the cutie?

SissySean -> RE: Clearing the air... (10/31/2006 11:05:34 AM)

Gangspank is my new word of the day.
Hmmm, new tattoo?

Lorelei115 -> RE: Clearing the air... (10/31/2006 11:23:20 AM)

Gangspank. That is the most brilliant word ever. *laugh* I guess this finally answers the question "Do Mistresses Like Crossdressers?" [:D]

Thanks for the tip, LadyE. I will definitely check it out. [:D]

demistress -> RE: Clearing the air... (10/31/2006 11:26:03 AM)

Thank you both, I spent endless seconds agonizing over the right word *grin*  I'm glad it was enjoyed.

not really needed!? not really needed!?

knowledge of the offside rule is a sacrosanct and revered piece of lore Benji! To say its not needed is like saying it isnt important to know - surely thats not what you meant!?

As I believe Bill Shankley (famous Brit soccer manager) said, "football (soccer) is not a matter of life and death. Its more important than that"

gooddogbenji -> RE: Clearing the air... (10/31/2006 11:35:03 AM)

Then why is it that immortal piece of trivia which hardcore fans(such as yourself) use to differentiate yourselves from the simple afficionado (such as myself)

If it were needed, it would be in the beginners handbook, like that the ball is round, each team has 11 players, and that the Germans are assholes.

Yours,

benji

LadyEllen -> RE: Clearing the air... (10/31/2006 11:45:16 AM)

Ah Benji........ do you mean you know these secrets and have not been initiated?

Quickly now, roll up your trouser leg and shirt sleeve and drink this.....a pint of Newcastle Brown Ale from an old footie boot. There, now all is right with the world.

How large is the Newcastle Brown Ward at the local hospital now?

LOL,
Ron (no joke folks)
