That's what we used to call them in AOL chatrooms a few years ago.  It stands for Snot Nosed, Egotistical, Radical Teenagers.  They would come into a chat room and start tossing out insults.  And, of course, people react.  As long as they keep reacting, the SNERTs keep it up.  The only thing that makes them go away is when people ignore them.

It appears that SNERTs are making their way into these message boards.  I refer you to this thread:  http://www.collarchat.com/m_660553/tm.htm  Only three hours ago a SNERT started this thread and has been getting his jollies tossing insults ever since.  And in a mere three hours, there have been 173 posts to it.

As I said above, the only way to get rid of a SNERT is to stop feeding his ego, to ignore him.  So, why are over a dozen people keeping him going?

If I did not respond, who would?

I just took a quick look at the thread you mention.....it's five pages of incoherent, re-hashed BDSM gibberish. Anyone wasting the time to argue over such nonsense would have better served themselves tonight by taking children out for Halloween or passing out candy.

I have never known why those threads are constantly fed.  Perhaps those who are responding to the thread you identified would be able to give a better response.  There are threads on here that seem to keep surfacing every now and again I also do not understand that either.

Some who respond just seem to be toying with the snert yet others truly seem to be upset with the post.  I can understand toying with idiots at times it is a fun pass time however why get upset?

I wonder if the same ones who constantly reply, argue and keep those threads going, are even gainfully employed? Maybe they're just sitting at home on the 'puter with nothing to do.

Himself has me on a two flame limit per person, so I have to be very picky about turning on the old torch. Generally, I try to give the benefit of the doubt and honestly answer any OP. These days.. it just seems like the effort to actually flame someone doesn't garner any rewards .. so it's lose-lose.

In this case, by the time I had my answer typed, there was a full page already past it and I think the OP missed it all together. By then, I saw it was hopeless, so didn't respond anymore.

I'm another of the commenters on that thread.....I was just having fun.....definitely needed that laugh and who would take him seriously? I couldn't...it was just way too overdone making it comical rather than insulting as I think he'd hoped.

Why? Simple - they were having fun, at his expense, and he didn't even know it.  Too bad I didn't get all the way to the end of the thread before they pulled it, it was the best troll war I've seen in years.  Wonder if they pulled him too?

Celeste.....

I still remember reading and being caught off guard by your ''Shadow play'' thread, and thinking '' What a concept....neat!''  Anyways.... I would never think of you as one who is posting gibberish.

Why not? What is the harm in what he is doing?  Why is it so important to you that he be stopped or ignored. And I noticed that you posted on the thread a few times yourself.....Pot, meet Kettle.

I think alot of people believe that they can change that person's mind, perhaps educate them a little. But that thread your talking about that guy was clearly trolling for attention. I fired off a few responses, had my giggles and put him on block. Its people like that who have nothing informative, intelligent or inspirational to say that meet my block dagger. Because if you toss fuel onto the fire it continues to burn.

Ahh, Celeste, you can flame me anytime you like.  As long as we're talking about fireplay.
