For a long time, maybe since birth, John Kerry's goal was to be President of the US. Everything he has done has been pointed to that goal, including his military service. It eliminated the objection and prejudice that existed during the time when he was in college; that to be President you had to serve in the US military. He treated it in the same manner he treated any other 'required class' to obtain his degree. His after service disclaimer of his countries military provides indication of his core beliefs; his military service disarms any challenge and provides legitimacy to his position. His comparison of the military servicemen to terrorists would have been a political death knell for anyone else, but pointing to his "three purple hearts" and active duty in Vietnam excuses him. Kerry is not stupid. He is arrogant, calculating, and has an infinite ego. He so parallels President Bush in all these facets its difficult to tell them apart. (If it brings you pleasure to consider President Bush stupid, I apologize for upsetting your fantasy. You don't get to high office without being smart, arrogant, calculating, and have a huge ego.) How frustrating it must be for him that he isn't President and Bush is?! I don't know for sure, but this "joke" is going to be like Dean's scream. It will disqualify him from future national consideration. He has become a pariah to the other Democratic candidates and his party. He must be going crazy. On the other, more recent, topic of this thread supporting the troops; I don't buy into that rationalization. I supported going into Iraq. I supported the war in getting rid of Saddam. I believed, along with Kerry and the other senators who voted for invasion that Saddam had WMDs in his possession. However, a while back I stopped supporting the occupation. I don't feel it necessary to be the policing referees getting killed for Muslims. We should leave and let them kill each other. This position does NOT support the troops. Our Muslim enemies feed upon that position. If gives them strength, generates recruits, and makes their goal one of survival until more and more people feel the way I do and force our leaders to surrender as we did in Vietnam. If may give me comfort to say; "I don't support the war, but I support the troops." but it's hypocritical and a practical lie. My position supports the enemy. By definition it can't support the troops. I regret it. I wish it wasn't the case. But anything else is rationalization and hypocrisy.
