To Lotus Song, Maybe you are the only person to see Kerrys joke, Every one else knows it wasn't a joke. Kerry hates the military and meant every word in his insult to our troops..

Seeing he was in the military in a conflict that was a huge mistake, perhaps he has more reason to hate the military then you might think. I could relate a few tales I have heard that might make me feel that way had I served in Vietnam... I do not know what was in Kerry's heart, but I do know when he spoke out about Winter Soldier many in the military hated him. Those who shine the light of truth on those who prefer to do evil in the dark tend to hate those with the light. The best thing Kerry did was tell the truth about Vietnam. His other actions such as voting for the Iraq Resolution and not taking a more firm stand on Iraq since are less than stellar, they are why I could hardly stand the stench of his name on a ballot....

But guess what, he aint running and there is not enough time to make him an election issue... so next Tuesday a lot of neocons and fundies will be crying in either their beers or their green tea

What we need to do is eliminate the "good ol' boys" club.

Is there anyone here not planning to use their vote please? If so, could they please vote Democrat on my behalf?

For all I'll be flamed for meddling in US affairs, this stuff affects the whole planet, and especially those of us who are the strongest allies of the US, here in the UK, so if you werent going to use your vote anyway, I'd much appreciate the opportunity to influence the fate of my country through proxy in yours.

I'd hate to think of the Republicans surviving because someone didnt vote. The Democrats dont seem to be particularly worth voting for from my angle here, but they have one good thing going for them - theyre not Republicans!

Those who pretend to be "the light" and say hateful things really piss off those of us who actually did serve fully, truthfully and did so without political ambitions and aims.

NEW YORK - Just days from the midterm elections, the final round of MSNBC/McClatchy polls shows a tightening race to the finish in the battle for control of the U.S. Senate. Democrats are leading in several races that could result in party pickups, but Republicans have narrowed the gap in other close races, according to Mason-Dixon polls in 12 states.

The numbers

Here are the state-by-state results for the latest MSNBC/McClatchy polls. Click the state name to read the poll data. And click the candidates' names for their profiles.

The Democrats in Chicago aren't upset by this either - their battle cry is "Vote Early, Vote Often"

And yes, Chicago still has the most corrupt voting practices in the country, bar none - I love this State.

Um... Chicago is a city... [;)]

Chicago is in Illinois - I live in Illinois (am I goin' too fast for you? ;-P)

Politics are like a parade.  Unfortunately, the Democrats who follow the Elephants will have to pick up the shit.  Whoever gets in will have to have a strong stomach.

Donkey Doo-Doo ain't any better then Elephant Splats - it all stinks no matter the source.

"Little Phants" is the PC term I believe

LadyEllen -> RE: Election Predictions (11/6/2006 2:06:19 PM)

"When I was in India" - as I believe all us Brit aristos and bourgeois are meant to say, with ridiculously clipped vowels of course - "we used to spread elephant dung at the edge of the garden; keeps the tigers out you see? The tiger is only afraid of one animal, and thats the elephant. One would think the tiger would get used to the idea and that it wouldnt work anymore, but the tiger for all its cunning, isnt actually too bright. Its strong smelling stuff, elephant dung, but well, we soon got used to it - didnt notice it after a while.

"Of course though, there is one type of elephant that produces crap that stinks no matter how long one is around the stuff. Strange creature all in all. I understand its found in America - the US more particularly, where it craps all over the place and on a lot of the people there too, apparently. Totally untameable too; it simply doesnt concern itself with the human population and runs rampant without any regard to them. Terrible situation really.

"But I heard, would you believe, the strangest thing the other day. Apparently the Americans have become most exasperated with trying to live with these elephants, and are holding an election to decide what to do about them. Some seem to like the stink of their dung, (like we in India, apparently they hold it in high regard for keeping out alquedas or something - I take it an alqueda is some sort of big cat like a tiger with a Spanish name or something), and others are fed up with their crap.

"Fascinating, how the world has changed, I find"

For as many people you find who imply the Republicans are uncaring about the environment, the poor, the elderly, etc.; you can find just as many people who say the Democrats don't care about security, the border, protecting America, etc.

The name calling just doesn't fix anything; it just causes more problems.  Are there Dems and Repubs that fit those stereotypes?  Why yes.  Do most of them fit?  Not even most of them fit in those stereotypes.  I would say some fringes on each side fit those stereotypes.  The people that lean sharply left or right are probably afraid the stereotypes are true of the opposite side and therefore more adamant in their positions.

For all the non-US personages who grace these forums; one must remember that the U.S. hasn't been screwing the rest of the world that long - before that it was the British, French, Spanish, Russians, Germans, Romans, Ottomans, Mongols, Japanese, Chinese, Portuguese, Dutch, Greeks, Babylonians, Eqyptians, etc. etc. that spent many, many centuries doing despicable things to other countries.

The Yanks came from all these other countries and since we are only a few hundred years old (as compared to all the other countries) I could equate the U.S. as being a teenage that is emulating the bad behavior of it's parents.

Does that give the U.S. the right to be bad neighbors to the world community?   Not by a long shot.  I'm merely pointing out that some countries have some very old glass houses and therefore stones shouldn't be tossed about without care.
