Morrigel -> RE: Race important? (11/4/2006 5:50:13 AM)

An an anthropologist I have some serious issues with the use of the word "race" being applied to human beings.

The person who summed it up the most accurately was the one who said:  "I'm only attracted to the human race."

My mileage varies on individuals.

enigmaslave -> RE: Race important? (11/4/2006 5:55:04 AM)

Original question:
In another post the subject of looks was put forth and since we’re on the subject I was wondering to what extent race plays in finding play partners. Are you selective with regards to race?  Are you only interested in certain races? What about mixed race? Or does it just depend upon the situation?

- This question has spin off problems, and is difficult to clearly answer. To further simplify this question, my definitions of race will that of people from 3 specific continents. Africa Asia, Europe. i have used these definitions merely for simplicity as race is debatable and because most of the explorations started from these locations. (i want to reinforce we are talking race not culture. Ex. Japanese is a culture from Asia)

- i do have a preference for race, (out side of my own) because i find the features and characteristics of this race pleasing and comforting. (i must been imprinted at a young age as i cannot explain otherwise why)

“…extent race plays in finding play partners?”
The problem i have found with staying narrowed minded in choosing partners from a race, is that we are such a small community to begin with, that this approach could leave me partner-less for a very long time. It is negligible the extent it plays on my choices. Rather i see it as a bonus, if iI am lucky enough to find some on one from that race.

“Are you selective with regards to race?”
i would like to be, but i cannot. My circles are not sufficiently inclusive of many people from that race, to find a Domme.

“Are you only interested in certain races?”
i have to be honest and say yes. mine and the other. With out being specific to that race, there is only one other race outside of my own that i find a "Gut Style" attraction too. These attractions are to such features as: scent, facial features, skin texture, frame size, and voice tone.

“What about mixed race?”
Some mixed races are visually pleasing to my self, while others are not. With that said, i would consider some people of mixed race provided they met my aforementioned points of appeal.

“does it just depend upon the situation?”
i think this is the key to the whole question. Yes it very much depends on situation. If i had an "Amazing Mental connection to someone that was not of the race, age, body shape, of my choice, i would be a complete fool to throw that potential relationship away.

After all is said and done, our community is very small. A conservative estimate of those that are "Out and Active" is that we make up less then 10% of out societies population. To further brake down my choices to 3.3% of the population based on race, and further break that down by age and physical shape is ignorant and foolish.

Thank you for reading my opinion.

No

No

Ok, what about it?

It is the person and shared interests.

Yes and no, I have dated one Black man and one Mexican guy, but I tend to be attracted to White men. So I have no problem dating outside my ethnicity, but I seemingly have a preference for my own ethnicity

Are you only interested in certain races?

If I started looking again I would date whomever I was attracted to, and I have seen men from every ethnic background that were yummy[:D]

Actually the two I listed above were ethnically mixed... mixed race is a contentious term in my mind, because we are all mixed.

Like I can afford to be selective!?

Are you only interested in certain races?

No, as the attractive/unattractive ratio worldwide by my tastes seems the same everywhere, just as the pleasant/jerk ratio seems the same everywhere. I guess I would be guilty though, of having tastes which are based on finding "white" features most attractive, but its not a conscious thing (NB features, not skin colour!). In the end though, its how a person is, that would interest me, not their race.

What about mixed race?

You know, some of the most attractive people on the planet are of mixed race, by my tastes anyway.

Or does it just depend upon the situation?

I think it depends for me on finding someone attractive as a person, in the round. The only discrimination I'd make apart from that would be the attitude of the culture they come from towards the likes of me, and how much they clung to that and expected to apply it to me. I dont care who they are, I'm not going to put up with any shit from anyone based on their culture or their religion etc (and I dont mean just Islam!)

daddysprop247 -> RE: Race important? (11/4/2006 10:06:16 AM)

both race and culture matter to me. before being owned, i pictured my ideal future Master as a white, much older, subconsciously racist Dominant from the American south. if not from the south, then Southern Africa would do as well. why? because in my submissive fantasies/imagination, the perfect picture of Dominance meant superior age, caucasian race, and racist background/culture (for that inbred sense of superiority drilled into them from birth on). how this came to be my idea i don't know...maybe because i grew up in the rural south in an environment oozing racial injustice and discrimination...maybe because i've always felt weak and powerless and therefore always been most attracted to those in power...who knows. but in any event, i fell madly, ridiculously in love with a Man who fit my idea in every way except...he was not white! freakish i know. it even amazed me. but love is love.

still, my Master is aware of this attraction i've always had for Men of a certain race and culture, and he finds it very appealing...so most of the Men he shares me with fit that ideal. it's really not even a direct turn-on thing...and to be honest, i'm not anymore physically attracted to white/pink skin than i am to brown/black skin. i have no preferences when it comes to skin color. so it's not a matter of physical attraction for me. it's a whole complex psychological thing that's triggered in me when i serve/am used by an older white, somewhat racist (or completely racist) man. it gives me a greater sense of being LESS. it's the only way i can describe it.

as for other races/cultures, again skin color itself has never mattered to me, tho i do have strong cultural preferences. i tend to be attracted to west african and middle eastern men, because of the male superiority/female inferiority culture in which they are often raised. basically i find myself attracted to those who naturally feel they are somehow superior to me, based purely on my race, gender, or both.

Fitznicely -> RE: Race important? (11/4/2006 10:36:37 AM)

I am part Thai, part Brit. It doesn't show, apart from virtually black pupils, virtually black hair and very little need for sun cream.

Our family pretty much ignored this mix of races - and still do, never giving it a single thought. Consequently, I do not give the issue of race a single thought in my day-to-day life.

From time to time, I've come across people who find this hard to believe. It landed me in trouble one time when I simply couldn't say if a caller to a shared house I lived in had been black or not. It simply didn't register, even subconsciously.

So in answer to the original post:

No,
No,
It feels fine to me
It depends on the person, the circumstances and my instincts.

I've never found race to be important, but then...I've always finished first (I'm a fast runner)....so who gets to the finish line first has never been an issue for me.

Random thought
Race has only played a factor with me when it has ben an issue for the OTHER person.  Very often, someone elses comfort level has rubbed off.  No matter how attractive I might find someone, if it is obvious that they are not comfortable with a more than platonic mixing, it tends to throw me.  I have a tendancy to forget that not everyone is completely comfortable with partnering with anyone else they please.

Personally, I know what my ethnicity is, and very few others do.  I dont hide it, but I dont shout it from the rooftops either, just ebcasue it realy isnt that important. I dont clasify myself as mixed simply becasue most of the time people make assumptions when to comes to that.  However, I am a garden variety mixed american.  I am part European (whatever countreies on that side mixed, I may never know) and part Native American.

dsamethyst -> RE: Race important? (11/4/2006 5:20:11 PM)

i know it may not be the most PC thing in this day and age to say but well I actually do definately have an afinity for caucasian men...I have met exactly one Ebony skinned man in my life that got my attention...and he blew that interest by saying that he was interested in me becasue of my RED hair....My red hair is mostly courtesy of chemically converson.....

I actually do not put a colored photo on becasue i have been hunted by the great red head hunters...and so  although i am drawn to caucasian men i am not drawn by all caucasian men....I prefer manly men...not those with a boyish features...

I think alot of the attraction is actually a scent thing...I have a very keen sense of smell...and well  some men have a different body scent than others....coming from a mostly white demographic area as a girl  i was not introduced to a great deal of different cultures...about the only other culture i was introduced to were to hispanic brothers that moved into the neighborhood.    think lustfully about those two...oh my....hmmmm

anyway.. I think people of my type....those of the girlish persuasion...we tend to have an afinity for those that are similar to the men that we loved as small girls.

To this day a man in Old spice gets my attention, and well there is the scent of shaving soap that does it as well...  It's just my thing....

Attracted only to certain races?  In most cases, no.

Only attracted to certain cultures, on the other hand?  In most cases, yes.

I say "in most cases" because I have not and never will meet every man on the planet.

CuriouslyKat -> RE: Race important? (11/4/2006 11:13:10 PM)

*fast reply*

It's funny I got a message on another BDSM site today it said "You are pretty good looking for a *n-word*."  Really??...I thought I was just a damn cute human being!!

I don't race is very important, unless you make it. Just like anything else it comes down to personal preference. I find I am attracted to certain skin tones.....to pasty looking or too dark mostly turn me off. Everything else usually draw my eye.

I really look at age, cuteness, intelligence, and how nice the ass looks before race.

mnottertail -> RE: Race important? (11/4/2006 11:24:55 PM)

Well, slick--------you are about drop dead gorgeous, I don't think your having a better than average tanning solution hurts you in that regard.........but winter comes to us all......and we gotta all snuggle sometime.............

wandersalone -> RE: Race important? (11/5/2006 12:35:37 AM)

I don't have any personal preferences in regards to a person's race, if I am attracted to someone it is usually based upon things like shared interests, conversational skills and complementary personality type. I have pretty much dated my own little United Nations - I believe in giving everyone a fair chance! [:D]

Interestingly, in a lot of emails I receive on the other side I am asked where I am 'really' from when I explain that I am Australian.  A few people have been interested in me 'only' because of my colour which I found a bit strange but each to their own.

texancutie -> RE: Race important? (11/5/2006 12:59:02 AM)

I am open minded....but find myself attracted to Caucasian men for some odd reason.  That does not mean that I didn't find a young Denzel Washington hot as hell.  I am Chippewa/Ojibwe and a tribal member.  My dad was Ukrainian and my native side of my family could not stand him.  But then again the white side of my family could not deal with the fact that I am half Native.  But being mixed...that is how it goes sometimes.  Funny because I now am able to pass for being white.  Not to mention I now live in Houston and Hispanic people sometimes do come up to me and try to talk to me in Spanish.  Back in the 60s and 70s I had a hard time passing though, due to the neighborhood I was raised in.  I hated all the war whoops and things like that of course.  When I got to be a teen I got lighter as far as skin color and started looking a bit more like my dad's side of the family....so I went with it and passed.  Was just easier at that time.  There were no other Natives anywhere near me.  I try to keep an open mind, but for some strange reason....I go for the white guys.  My uncle who is full blood goes for blondes...lol.

GreySaber -> RE: Race important? (11/5/2006 1:18:15 AM)

I am so going to get it for this. But yes, Race is important to me. When I look at my hands, I know they look like the hands of my ancestors who battled the English to run them out of America, and I know they look like the hands from the other side of the family, who battled at Culloden. Long and short, I'm proud of my people, and my people are white. I'm proud to know that my ancestors would recognise me as one of their people. If I had a black grandfather, this would not be true.

Now, every time someone white says anything LIKE this, someone comes along and labels them as a Nazi. They claim that to have some pride in your ethnic heritage, is somehow racist, but they only say this if you are white. If you care about your roots, and are any other color, you are veiwed as good, and pure. (Just look at the fellow who made "Roots." A famous series, because he wanted to know where his people came from.)

Does this mean I won't hire someone who's Asian? No, if he's the best for the job, I'll gladly hire him. Does it mean someone who's black isn't entired to use the water fountain? No, let him.

But someone will come out and say that's what I mean. And it isn't. I just like being what I am, and eventually I'm most likely to end up with the same.

And it's not right that narrow minded bigots keep equating liking your people as they are, with wanting to harm others, and attempt to hit them with some sort of politically correct charater assassination, and it's time for it to stop.

Also, for the record, this does NOT mean I would not play with someone who wasn't white. If I was attracted, I would. But in a romantic, long term sort of setting, it's a no.

Not Nazi; "racist"!

In the pc Western World of our age, most politicians and media (including Hollywood) would have us believe the definition of a racist is basically anyone who's white....  lol
