Dear Kalira, Ladies and Gentlemen;

I can only say from my experiences, that some slaves I have had, really had a good head on their shoulders.  Military past, their training --when my slave michael told me in a commanding voice, "MOVE" -- I obeyed.  I moved. He handled it just right.  He not only is my slave but, he is my guardian, my extra set of eyes, my companion, the one I cherish and he I.

Another thing I wish to mention, in trusting slaves in situations.  No slave of mine jokes around when dealing with crisis matters.  It is one of those things I don't play games with.  Nor will my slaves.  I watch my slave's back, did it when a bottle went sailing-- I didn't have time to explain, I said "DOWN" he went down as I commanded.  The same when slave michael said "MOVE."  I moved!  Explainations can be said later.

I will also mention, that we have seen on TV; when President Reagan was shot, the secret service agents commanded the President--the President followed.  Its a trust, that they know what they're doing.  The same with my slaves.

Respectfully submitted,
Lady Hugs

As a slave I can say that Master trusts my judgement and intuition. In a crisis would be the only time I would be loud and firm. He would know that it was something that he did not have to ask about first but go ahead and  react to. I think it is like any other dynamics in any relationship. A crisis is a crisis and if both of you know and trust each other than it is known on both sides that one or both need to react to whomever is stating an action.

What is actually happening during Total Power Exchange? I see that the Dom has been given the responsibility of taking their sub further into the darker and unknown realms of their limitations both physically and mentally. 'Responsibilty' is the key word. In the Dom's subconscious, they know that their skill is to push things as far as they can in order to expand the growing of the submissive.

So who is actually in charge?

To my mind, as long as there's a genuine relationship between the two people then they're both in charge, though certainly to different degrees since a Dominant can only control his/her submissive to the extent that the sub will allow.  I know that many subs/slaves profess "Total Power Exchange" but I think with some gentle questions it becomes clear that the vast majority have limits of some sort (it could be play involving phobias, scat or other places the person simply can't go without grave risk of harm).  The key is being engaged in a relationship where trust exists that those hard limits won't be breached.

"Master could order me to do anything, because that's His right, but I know that He won't order me into a closed coffin full of spiders because He would never do that to me..."  In this case, who has the control? The submissive who says "I am deathly afraid of X," knowing that it will likely never be invoked out of concern for his/her well-being? Or the Dominant who still retains the right to do as he/she pleases, but chooses not to do certain things out of concern for his/her sub?

Control is a fluid concept and can swing back and forth instantaneously.  I don't know that it's an "all or nothing" venture, where one person has it all and the other surrenders all.  For me, TPE is more about surrendering authority rather than "power" for exactly this reason -- I still have power even while submitting, I simply choose not to exercise it.  Only the strong have something to give up in the first place.

I have a lot to give up.  He really wants it.  It’s this transfer and acceptance that amounts to my submission.

As always, YMMV.

With me personally I have never obeyed someones command instinctively.I do however look about to find reason for such a command, assess the situation, then act..now this may sound like a long time and in certain circumstances it may be however such assessement can sometimes take mere nano seconds....But then again, I have found myself rarely in a situation where blind trust has been needed...Tempting

A couple of things on the OP's question:

It is trust, pure and simple.  Not to belabor the point, but if holly said "DOWN!" I'd duck, because I trust her with My life just as she trusts Me with her life.  Of course, a goal we all should strive for is to not put ourselves or our loved ones in situations where ducking is necessary.

PiercedDaz made this point, and I want to echo it:  The analogy of an officer following an order from one of her or his troops may be apt, but it is not blind trust at all.  One thing that the military does well is forge small groups of people who trust and respect eachother, so that orders are obeyed not only because of "chain of command" but because of that mutual respect.

And miss, there are retired Marines, and former Marines, but rarely are there "ex-Marines".  Usually, an "ex" is someone who rejects his Marine Corps service or was dishonorably discharged.  Ask your Master.  Once a Marine... *SMILE*  Semper Fi!

Funny....we had almost the same feeling...you really never get away from being "Airborne"...and saying when I was with the 82nd Airborne...only our saying was more along the lines of "Once a nut, always a nut..."

Emperor1956:
There are many ex marines who have honorable discharges.
If you were ever in the USMC then you will know that semper fi means:
The line forms behind me.
Greg Boyington, Chesty Puller and David Shoup all claimed to be ex marines.
