Calling people "morons" and saying your opposition is "pandering to the lowest common denominator" are highly negative things, and point to an attitude of superiority that turns off a lot of people, even ones who would be more than willing to listen, and debate with you.

Just me, could be wrong, etc, etc,

FirmKY

Sorry, I'd clap louder but I'm eating home-made pumpkin pie, and I'm afraid I'd spill it. [:D] Good post.

FirmhandKY -> RE: Truth Hurts (11/5/2006 12:23:16 PM)

julia,

My "moron" comment was in reaction to PeterK50, not you.  It was just both of your posts showed the same general belittling and angry attitude.

I think I said that I have no problems with either AirAmerica or Rush.

Why you seem to be taking offense is unknown to me.

hmmm maybe I took offense because the insinuation is that I have a "side" and I am belittling the other "side". Personally I find both "sides" of talk radio to be disgusting and hatefilled...

BTW I do not consider myself a liberal, but label all you like... I find most liberals in favor of neo-liberalized free markets... Im not in favor of that.

Nor am I a progressive, as I find that is mealy mouth speak for being a liberal

I am a leftist, true... But not of the democrat stripe...

No I know the difference. I've read your posts as well & I'm not impressed. I stand by my perogative not to argue with fools. Knock yourself out. The field is yours alone. Kentucky is full of trailer pack philosophers & coal mine pundits. My point of view from "Millionaires Row" at Churchill Downs yesterday tells me that life is good.

NeedToUseYou -> RE: Truth Hurts (11/5/2006 12:31:11 PM)

Hmmmm, LOL, Liberals don't preach to there choirs.

As far as I'm concerned liberals, conservatives, democrat, republican, all are equally prone to follow the tune provided them by the party. Marching lock step with any particular group is the definition of moronic. There are moronic liberals, conservatives, etc... The abscence of critical thought and blind acceptance of the message is what makes one a moron. I've encountered plenty of people on both sides that suffer this condition.

True conservatives dominate radio, but that would just be because they are entertaining, many liberals listen to rush just to get pissed at him. So, he makes cash. If he was moderate in his rhetoric no one would listen. Sad but true. Similiarly, do you actually think only conservatives watch Fox News. No, liberals watch it to because they like yelling at the screen. Works for them.

Hell, I've lost any appreciation for rush's views for the most part, but he is funny sometimes when he gets the liberals mad or goes on a tirade. I listen rarely and don't really listen to the message but it is funny to listen to the reactions people have that take it all seriously. On both sides. Thus the reason Air America will/is failing and Rush will make money.

God, Peter, if I was of a mind ... you leave yourself open to plenty of stereotypes yourself, you know.

hmmm ... I guess, since you live in "millionaires row" ... that your opinion needs no defense.  It's self-evidently correct, since you have the money to back it up?

Well ... lets' see:

... you are a liberal, but believe in personal violence against those who may not share your opinions ....

... you are a liberal, but believe that having money makes you "more equal than others" ...

... you are liberal, but think just because someone isn't as rich as you, they are obviously stupid and unworthy of talking with ....

Geez .... this is leading me to calling you a Social Darwinist, not a liberal.

NEW YORK - Air America Radio, the liberal talk and news radio network that features the comedian Al Franken, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Friday, but will stay on the air while it reorganizes with funding from its investor group.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15249280

Can they make it? The above link is from mid-October, I believe.

Everybody has their troubles.  So wht if Al was a comedian.. Reagan was a B actor.   The link remains and the truth stays the same. I'm sure they will make it.

Al Franken was a Comedian?   When?
I thought you had to be ***FUNNY*** to be a Comedian?
Man, I was in the wrong business.
Liberals aren't *funny* because they're afraid of "Offending" anyone.
Those on the far left are *just as bad* as those Holy Rollers on the far right.
And being Anal-Retentive is no way to go through life.

Be careful, peter, julia and her "side" want to take your money and make you hang out with those inbred commoners......[:D]

PS- slides julia a slice of pie and hopes she doesn't throw it back at me [8|]

peterK50 -> RE: Truth Hurts (11/5/2006 12:45:50 PM)

Guess you need to look outside the Fox News definition of liberal then. I don't live on "Millonaires Row", it's a seating area at Churchill Downs for the Derby & yesterdays Breeders Cup Championships. Call me whatever you like, I couldn't care less.

ahhh ... no.

That's not what you said at all.  I think it was pretty plain:

Basically talk radio panders to the lowest common denominator, which is why it is best left to the Right Wing Whack Jobs, like Rush and Hannity....
(juliaocean post 13)

"Right Wing Whack Jobs" is pretty descriptive, and pretty negative.  And, places you on the 'left" however far you wish to place yourself, in the rest of your post:

I wasn't attempting to paint you into any corner or label you any certain way.  I was simply pointing out that there was anger and condencension in your post.

Hell, it happens to us all, from time to time, that we appear a certian way, when it's not our intent.  I thought you would be able to take it for what it was, and not as a challenge.

Could be just me, though.

I do not think you understand what my side is, most don't, and perhaps one day I will sit and write a nice long thread about my political philosophies if it seems to be a good idea... I am not a sound byte kinda gal, and I have done some deep thinking about this subject. Somehow I doubt that people would want to read my treaties on where the future of the world should go, 20 pages would only be a brief synopsis after all.

Now I will take that pie and save it for Sinergy... Im on a diet

Since Rush and Hannity will be the only hate mongerers standing still after Air America goes off the air, well lets just say that they have an audience of loyal haters that the liberal tree huggers just can't seem to tap into with the same sort of rhetoric... I will let that speak for itself[:D]

sissifytoserve -> RE: Truth Hurts (11/5/2006 1:02:00 PM)

I call Rush/hannity....."Kill those damn A-rabs....taking your freedom away for "security" is good" Radio.

I don't understand, that's why I put "side" in parentheses [;)], though when you say "Marxist", it gives me ideas. And I, for one, would genuinely enjoy reading your ideas of where the world should go. I think you're very bright, and I certainly don't have all the answers, I could perhaps learn something.

I knew you meant that [;)]  The radio is a non-passive medium ; it forces you to use your imagination and ''image', contributing to a more expansive use of the brain - Whereas television is an extremely passive medium where information flows into the sub-conscious unregulated - That's why we have so many people dumbed-down and programmed by the television. Folks who read, listen to radio and participate interactive forums like this, are less susceptible to this kind of manipulation. [:D] LMAO!!
