I hope that this reaches the moderators....
I think that Collarme.com should regularly eliminate any member profiles unaccessed by the member for over one year [better yet, six months] as these members are obviously no longer participating in this site.
Many times I have wanted to contact a member, only to read "last online {previous year(s) date}", so there is no point to contacting them because they will never see it.
These profiles are just wasting space on the site.

That sentiment, while laudible from our standpoint as members, does not make good business sense given the fact that artificially inflated membership numbers equates to increased advertising dollars (ie: more money for reaching more people... even if some of those people are self-generated or have not visited the site in years).

There's also the simple logistics of the matter.  There are only so many hours in a day, and a great deal of the site's work is done by volunteers, because they believe in what's going on here, and to help keep it a free site (think alt and b.com).  Perhaps if enough make it known they'd like this service, you could offer to give up some of your own time to help.

cheers

That can be done automatically if that option is programmed in.
I suppose that the advertising dollars due to inflated membership will be the larger deciding factor. We preumably could generate CM twice the advertising revenue by each creating a second profile, inflating the apparent membership by a factor of two.

The results from your search criteria are ranked with how long it has been since someone has been online, with preference to those online "now" with a picture. When you gaze upon a profile there is a part that says "last online", read it yourself, and cull the herd of profiles you get by blocking the ones that are not in the time frame you want the rest of us to adhere to. I have no emotional investment in which profiles come up on my screen, and which ones do not... if I did I would block them... just my opinion

That may be a good idea, but what about the people that want to stay active on the board but are overseas serving our Country and have no access to this site?
To just say well they can join again is kind of silly.   I do see the point, but there are options that need to be thought about first.

Arpig -> RE: Unattended memberships (11/5/2006 6:18:55 PM)

what harm is there in leaving the profiles alone.
Besides, I often sign in directly on the collarchat page (not the collarme page) and therefore while I am participating in the site, I do not show up as having been online on the other side.

ModeratorEleven -> RE: Unattended memberships (11/5/2006 6:31:29 PM)

It's a moot point.  Accounts are not deleted for inactivity and there are no plans, or reasons, to change this policy.

Really, I think Mod 11 just doesn't have the heart to delete MissSix.

Besides, I really do think it's a stupid idea.

I think there are probably enough people that have more than one profile, don't you? [;)] I also think that the advertising revenue(which I would point out jsut recently started) is used for such unneccesary things as bandwidth, servers, etc.
