"Reflective Thinking" by breath 2-2-05

I stare into the looking glass
A shallow reflection of the past
A broken heart or two mended
My reflection offers little comfort

Smile faded long from sight
Scars take their painful plight
Not the ones rosey upon the flesh
But hidden deep within my mind

Insanity churns, burning within my soul
My laughter taunting from days of ol'
My mistakes burn upon my cheeks
Brightened red beneath softly falling tears

Broken recordings replay, shaming me
My humiliation at my failings plain to see
Yet still I move forward, reaching goals
Sometimes the drive that pushes is confusing

My heart quakes with desire and need
For the reaping of love's sweet seed
There are few things that I actually long for
Whimsical dreams of the trapped little girl inside

I stare at empty hands, longing to hold
To caress, to place a touch that's bold
Desperation seems to surface, taking me
Damn my cravings and selfish wants

My head is bowing, shameful nod
A whispered prayer to my silent God
The slave that I am feels incomplete
I wish that I could lay my burdens at someone's feet.
