Im not the person you responded to, but thought Id add some input.

There are different strains of the HIV virus.  While its all under the umbrella of HIV, individual strains can carry more health problems than others, some are resistant to the antiviral medications currently available, etc, etc.

So lets say there is a person infected with strain A HIV(not the clinical name, of course) and they have unprotected sex with someone infected with strain B of HIV.  It is possible for the person with strain A to reinfect him/herself with strain B of HIV, thereby being infected with 2 completely different strains of HIV at the same time.

Exactly Danemora, thank you for responding before I did.

I would and have played with bottoms who are HIV+.

I hate to say this again.. but I am also an HIV Outreach worker.

I am HIV negative.

I am also aware of the risk reduction behaviors and how to play safe(r) with someone. But, seriously ...it is universal precautions that should be used with EVERY person you play with.

Unless you are 100% sure someone is NOT infected with HIV, then you must assume that they ARE and make the proper adjustments. Unless you are through the window period and know for a fact that this person is monogamous with you and has been for up to the last six months (most folks have antibodies by three months though).. you simply do not know.

This subject touches a nerve for me. There is so much ignorance that I sit here banging my head on my desk in utter disbelief.

HIV/AIDS is not a death sentence anymore. There are those who are still alive and kicking (and fucking) 18+ years since their diagnosis. HIV/AIDS is so stigmatized. The images of the 80's still is at the forefront but is not the reality anymore.

BDSM activities are considered "low risk" by the CDC. I was in a CDC training and out of the 20 or so activities listed.. BDSM activities was ranked right above mutual masturbation. It had nothing to do with the activities themself.. it had everything to do with the safety precautions that RESPONSIBLE members of the community take. The CDC said that! Not me!

It wouldn't be a dealbreaker, and the honesty shown in admitting HIV+ status would be impressive, but....

It'd have to be overcome by an awful lot of positive traits.  I (can, could, have) deal with the extra precautions that would be necessitated by a lack of a clean bill of health, but they do tend to be a pain in the ass.

So, I could - but it'd have to be an exceptional sub to make it worthwhile.

Absolutely!

#1.........I am not a vampire[:D]
#2.........Honesty is something I value highly
#3.........I would educate myself on the safety issues

People can be taken from us in a heartbeat. I refuse to dwell on the negative potential of the future just because it might be painful (loss of a loved one). Instead I focus on the positive of today.

I would hope that in this day and age E/everyone gets tested for all STD's.
I also think its a good idea to get the Hep shots to protect yourself  not matter who you are.
I didnt need someone to ask Me to do it,its been a practice for several years already.

I wouldn't get involved with someone with any contagious illness. But wiitwd is very sexual for me, plus I'm monogamous and only interested in a long term fluid bonded relationship. He feels the same, he rejected subs who were promiscuous because he didn't feel that he could trust them during the six months between tests.

LadyHugs -> RE: Would u take a HIV+ for a sub? (11/9/2006 3:26:40 PM)

Dear subwantsamaster, Ladies and Gentlemen;

Not all individuals that have HIV+ got it through unsafe lifestyle choices but, from an unfaithful party and or blood transfusions.

I wouldn't mind having an HIV+ slave/submissive, if the circumstances was from something not a 'bold in the face risk taker' like some 'slut' type men/women and or drug taking men/men.

I'd have to go case by case.

Respectfully submitted for consideration,
Lady Hugs

ChaOz -> RE: Would u take a HIV+ for a sub? (11/9/2006 8:29:34 PM)

Its possible, with the right precautions you could be able to manage the fact the other person has HIV and not get infected. Its not the life sentence it used to be, you can live a normal life but the sub would need to be totally honest, not a psycho who would infect me on purpose and someone I have a real connection to.

CandleInTheWind -> RE: Would u take a HIV+ for a sub? (11/9/2006 9:21:06 PM)

HIV  mutates and herpes just stays the way it is...herpes is forever but and i hat eto be blunt  hiv can kill you.....herpes is just an annoyance

WishkaWriter -> RE: Would u take a HIV+ for a sub? (11/10/2006 12:27:54 AM)

I am sorry, but I wouldn't.  I insist that I and any subs I am involved with submit to STD testing.  That is safety on everyone's part, as condoms are not 100%.

LordODiscipline -> RE: Would u take a HIV+ for a sub? (11/10/2006 5:32:57 AM)

Not likely -

There is a great potential (exponential over time) that if we became intimate, I might get the disease...

Also - there is the issue of health care and medicines that has to be considered seriously in such a situation, as drug maintenance is very important with HIV.

I have never had "just a service submissive" - but, I would consider someone for that position with such a condition (if the insurance issue could be addressed) should the opportunity be present.

The point that most of us are making is that we aren't interested in just having BDSM play, we want a full relationship including sex. And for those of us interested in monogamous relationships that means fluid bonded. Which isn't safe with one positive and one negative. Hell, I'd worry about long hours kissing on the sofa if my partner was infected.

BootBlackBlast -> RE: Would u take a HIV+ for a sub? (11/11/2006 5:11:52 AM)

I just asked my new potential sissy boy to get an HIV and STD test. We live in SF, it's super quick easy and free. Why not do it? If it comes back positive, it doesn't mean he can't still be my boy it just means we have to be extra cautious. He in turn asked if he could schedule my appt. as well. And yes I let him.

As a sex slave, no. Not a chance in hell. As a domestic slave, I would consider it but with many restrictions. I would also consider her as a scene slave as well because I don't do bodily fluids in my scenes.

medievalwench -> RE: Would u take a HIV+ for a sub? (11/11/2006 5:40:36 PM)

i'm a sub but Master was fully screened before any intimacy took place as He had had unprotected sex. i was a virgin before i met Him so didn't get tested but if necessary i would do so and would abstain for as long as necessary as i love blood play and similar i need to be careful - not because i would be unfaithful to Master and pick something up, but because of having piercings and tatts i need to watch out for the parlours' hygiene and safety.

DiurnalVampire -> RE: Would u take a HIV+ for a sub? (11/11/2006 5:47:15 PM)

I personally would not.  My reasoning, however, is that even with very careful planning and avoidance of intimacy, I do tend to have open cuts on my hands often. Where I work, my hands are beaten up pretty badly, and while I take care of the damage diligently, it would present entirely too many oppertunities for accidental infection. As is, at work, I have to be extremely careful about dealing with customers when my hands are too badly beat up.

Caitriona -> RE: Would u take a HIV+ for a sub? (11/11/2006 6:14:11 PM)

If the sub were service only (no sex), then yes - without hestitation.  My Lord feels that some light SM play might be appropriate if handled with the correct precautions depending on the person.  There would definately be some types of play that are off limits (blood, needles, knives).  However, someone like me, who bruises very easily and bleeds through the skin, would not be a good candidate for play if I were HIV+.
