Thank God the election will soon be over because these push polls are driving me crazy. For the last week my phone has been ringing six to eight times a night and I get yet another recording (with the occasional live voice) telling me about the nefarious evil (he want’s to raise your taxes!) of one of the candidates. It has gotten to the point where I’ll pick up the phone and shout into it:

"I’ll vote for whoever the fuck I want to vote for! Now leave me alone!"

Then I’ll hang up.

Okay, I will wait a couple of seconds... just to make sure it’s not... like... you know, my mom or somebody.

"Oh, sorry mom... no not you.  I thought you were somebody else."

Anyway, I’m just curious. Am I the only one being driven batshit by this?  Am I the only one who, regardless who wins, will be glad it's finally over and we'll get some relief (at least until the '08 election)?

gotta say i agree.  i've had many e-mails over the last couple of weeks inviting me to "phone parties" so i could join in all the calling about issues and candidates.  i plan to vote, but the calls are out of hand.  do you think anyone thinks, "oh, i got a voice recording from (name celebrity or politician), so i'll vote the way they told me to vote" or "a total stranger says i should vote yes on this prop, so i guess i will."  at least i can recycle all the "voting guides" i've received in the mail...none of which were requested...

anyway, i feel your pain...

I am part of a two-party household.  So I'm getting calls from everyone.  I take glee in giving the Repubs answers that are making them think their voting base is shrinking.

I wonder if Marc2b is registered independent and/or is in a district where the race is close. I'm getting calls too but only about one a day (though I got 2 or 3 yesterday), but I'm registered to one party and in a district and state where the major races (gov, senator, and my congressman) are lopsided.

The calls I've been getting from my party have just been to remind me to get my ass out to vote to make sure the other bastards lose.

~laughing outright~ Sorry Mom, indeed. I practically shouted that at my own mother last night, knowing who she was.

I hardly ever answer my land line. I mean, why bother? I screen calls or let the answering machine get it.

Anyone that needs to be able to reach me can call me via my cell phone. Even then, I might not answer. If I'm asleep, tough titties. Call AAA, a cab, or an attorney. Dead people will be just as dead in the morning, so I don't consider that kind of thing an emergency call either.

Zzzzzzzzzz...

Two words -

Call screening.

Now, I'm off to vote!

I don't answer the calls...but I'm sick to death of the phone ringing. I think I am wearing out the "delete" button on my answering machine. I've taken to exclusively watching DVDs this week because every commercial is a campaign ad....or I should say a campaign "slam". I'm tired of picking up all the crap they keep leaving at my door. I can't wait til tomorrow morning.

A call came in on my landline just as I was reading this thread. I am a registered Democrat, yet I get calls from both parties...when it's a live human being it's really fun saying "No" when they say "Can we count on your support on Tuesday?"..when it's a recording, I just pick it up and hang up midway through the call.
I get email from John Kerry just about every day. It's nice to know he still remembers me.
My parents and I voted as a family this morning. We've always done it that way, ever since I was eighteen.

For many years I registered as a Republican but as I have drifted toward the center in recent years I recently re-registered as an independent.

Three words: broken answering machine.  More words: I figure I’ll wait to see if I get one for Christmas before splurging for a new one.

Me too. I think I’m wearing out my "Dazed and Confused" DVD.

Yup, shitloads of e-mails from both sides, phone calls, tons of crap in the mail, signs all over the side of the road, and stuff left on my doorstep.
I would e-mail them both back and ask them why they were so "weak" on illegal aliens and securing our borders.
