Okay guys I figured someone here could help me out, anyone know where to find free videos of someone using a whip? I need mildly decent quality, the reason why is I need reference for an animation I'm doing for my Animation II class. They told us that we should do something that personaly interests us (while not into pain).

The whole scene will be a woman walking in unfurling the whip letting it drag on the floor as she walks forward before using said whip, walking up to the person on the floor tilting their face up and then backhanding them . Hey they give us artistsic freedom why not use it?

So yeah i need reference on how to use a whip, someone using a whip whatever. And I know there are sites that have instuctional videos but I haven't seen any free ones. And yes pay sites are bad because I am a broke art student.

amy perhpas contactone of the prodommes.....i know a few that are quite capable of doing just such a thing and even one that im not too fond of is quite artistic in her whip weilding...just do a search for ny prodommes...

Look at the movie "Catwoman". I have some still shots of the whip in motion as part of a demo show I did (I was even in leather!). As a scientist who uses the whip as a sound barrier demo, I can describe the idealized action of the whip, if you care to have that discussion. Email me on the other side, if you do.

Dear badkittyamy, Ladies and Gentlemen;

Whip cracking, the instructional videos to using the whip in the western venues, might be easy to get a hold of as a snip.

The Black Whip, a 1940'-1950' female character, to have been the sister of Zorro, has some nice whip action.

Catwoman, as another suggested.

Zorro, the Gay Blade--another good one for whip techniques.

Indiana Jones is another, that uses whip actions rather well.

There is a smiley icon somewhere, that is "Get back to work" red round smiley, actually has a real good whip snap.

Hope this helps, shy of having somebody doing an AVI of a whip cracking and different strokes.

thanks for all the help guys i know the catwoman movie has alot of whip work but most of the clips i found weren't of the whole whip action it tended to cut away and I refuse to buy that movie on matter of principle that it was a terrible reprisentation of the lovely catwoman.

On topic though I think i'll also try and find a copy of batman return for that one scene where catwoman breaks into the place to blow it up, thanks for all the links though they'll help immensely.

Notice that there's a loop moving down the length of the whip...as the loop gets closer to the end, the whip gets narrower. It accelerates and when it reaches the bottom, it is going faster than the speed of sound. Thus, the crack, which is a mini sonic boom.
