From this englishman's point of view. i'm not going to lecture on voting democrat or republican as that is personal choice. However, the only thing i'd stress is for every single person to use their vote. Millions world-wide have fought and died for the right to vote, please do not dishonor them by being lazy and not voting.

It is sad but the country that brags and pushes about democracy has one of the lowest voter turnout on elections in the world. If people truly want change the best way is to vote for change. The politicians from both sides do take the hint. It may not be fast or dramatic but it is possible.

In our state..they expect a 65% turnout, which is considered good.

So far, across the country, There have been voting delays because of malfunctioning machines.. there is one instance where a voting place had it's doors chained and locks filled and broken so voting would be delayed (it is a state that is in danger of loosing it's Republican incumbent- go figure), Dubya was due in Florida to stump for his candidate and the candidate didn't show at the rally because he felt he better try to convince another area he felt more important.

I hear you are fined in Australia for not voting? Is that correct?

There are initiatives for a voting lottery?, I'm in since I would be there anyway.

Do you think George was sincere when he said he wanted and it was their duty for every U.S. citizen to vote today? I think he is right, so I voted twice.

Well, after watching that HBO special about the vulnerability of polling machines to glitches, errors and fraud, Id not be surprised if both your votes went to the other candidate.

I thought I was paying attention, but now Im even more outraged than I was before.

i feel the reason for such low voter turnout, besides the bullying that has been going on to discourage people from voting, is a sense of hopelessness. That's how it is for me anyway. i go, i see who is on the list, i remember all the negative campaigning they have done, and i want to go home, and eat double-fudge brownies and watch Ellen, or something. It's obscene what some of them will stoop to for a few votes. And none of them will do ANYTHING for the average citizen. i've said it before, i'd run for office, but #1, i know nothing about politics or the government, and #2, i would not stay in the closet, and i don't think many people would vote for a gay transsexual for any office. Sad, but true. Although, now that i think about it, knowing nothing about politics, and only being concerned with how the state is run might not be a bad thing.

I have my "I VOTED!" sticker right on my leather jacket.
Voted for all "Independants" and where there was none just passed by that section.
Also voted "no" on amending the state's constitution to say that "marriage is between one man and one woman."
I'm straight but it's no sweat off my nuts if two guys or two women want to get married.
I'm actually "for" gay marriage as long as both chicks are hot and they let me watch!

One of the initiatives in Arizona is that voters who cast a ballot are automatically entered into a 1 million dollar lottery! I believe there is a law that would consider that "buying votes".. but it's just seen as an incentive.

I voted against the Governator, although I tend to think he is a shoe-in.

I also voted for Jerry Brown. Jello Biafra (lead singer of the Dead Kennedys) told me to in their song "California Uber Alles"

The line "Mellow out or you will pay" just kills me.

I showed my mom the lyrics to that song today... we had quite a chuckle.

Jerry Brown is a hands down favorite too. I liked voting for him today and I am glad he is back

Yes we do have compulsory voting here, what that means is that we have to turn up to vote in person or by postal vote and our name gets ticked off the electoral roll. Whether a person actually ticks the boxes on the ballot is up to them. It always seems a bit silly to me to do a donkey vote and then complain about whoever gets elected.
