What childhood items do you still cherish? Which slaves on here are really miserable but pretending to be thrilled? Which masters on here are actually cheating? What exactly IS the retention rate of kinksters over 5 and 10 years? My theory: The growth and rise of today's scene is primarily due to an internet allowing people who were fairly well-off financially with free time and more educated than average who had internet access and perverted to finally connect on a regular and semi-anonymous basis providing a security they had not enjoyed before. The continued growth of the scene will rely on two things: today's teenagers and where their interests and goals will be, and who has access to the internet, with substantial free time and a disinclination towards mainstream culture. Discuss.

Discuss. gosh i guess you are right about the rich internet 30 somethings having all the credit for the scene explosion, but i was sorta hoping it was a collctive social sexaul maturity, evolving equivalency consciousness, and a renaissance of the adventurous human spirit...

There's some of that. Society at large becoming more open to alt cultures, the increased need for risk behavior (same time as coke hitting the scene, X sports), and there's ALWAYS a contingent of society yearning to break out of traditional boundaries. But what really made things into the scene as we know it today- with organized conventions, contests, munches, politics, and all the other cub-culture crossovers was IMO the rich/educated/not fitting into mainstream techies of the 70s/80s.

I have noticed that the average age in another chat site is approx. 45. Middle class, to affluent. Discovering themselves via the net. And I agree, the semi-anonymity provided is the key.
