I'm looking for info on riding crops & techniques...I have an English riding crop...labeled 'Wonder whip' (registered trademark)...Patent No.3136480, Model # 100-122.

It leaves the most intenesely beautiful welts...
If anyone has any info on this crop..or crops & their use...
please let Me hear from Y/you...

Status: offline 		Master uses a leather crop on me for punishment, He knows it is the only toy that this girl does not like and because she is a pain slut He gets it out when she is bad as He knows she hates it, it is very heavy and the pain is incredible. Master bought it cheaply on ebay but it does the job.
He is looking for a crop that will be more pleasurable to girl and not leave such severe bruising.

Crops would be in English, but you may want to look through Western as well just to see what they have that might appeal.

The only thing I don't see in their latest catalog are hobbles which is a pity as I want a pair. I think pony size for people.

Status: offline 		If your looking for a variety of crops I've found the best prices on e-bay to be honest. got three different ones for $20 *grins*

As for the OP. Techniques and such are pretty much up to the wielder and the reciever. I have three different styles of crops and each leaves a different type of mark and feels differently. The length of the shaft, the type of head, all will change the effect. And ofcourse how hard the wielder strikes lol

I am familiar with Wonder Whip products, sold by State Line Tack.
It is a product brand "Wonder Whip," much like GM, Ford, Rolls Royce, etc.
 
Being an Equestrian, in the horse world; terms for crop is a given length rather than for a cracker.  The "bat" is usually for children so it is the shortest of whips.  The crop is mid-length, to where the rider's hand falls, it can reach to the rider's heel, supporting the rider's aids and to the start to mid part of the horse's hip but no further.  The whip is longer where the shaft has longer length but not as long as a dressage whip.  Whip extends from horse's ears to the mid-hip area and sometimes to the edge of the back point of the hip.  The dressage whip, often is a few inches longer and has a cap on the top of the handle, as to slide in a rider's hands, it is a lot thinner than the crops and riding whips, to which reaches to the hocks of a horse, as to aid in driving the back legs under, as to execute the passage, the trot in place and the piaffe.  It is just shy of the length for a cart whip (Driving whip).
 
So, tack shops usually will go by the vocabulary that applies to equestrians.
 
In the BDSM world, the crop is usually to mean where a flap of leather is at the end of the whip, a design of leather, such as a hand, a butterfly or a horse head or something similar.  A whip would be of any length to have a cracker/popper on the end.

I thought I would mention, that the construction of whips in regard to Equestrians are seen as tools and sometimes specialized equipment.
 
Each whip maker/producer has whips to be used in different applications, which have different affects to alter the horse's performance.  A race horse has different application points, has different weight placements to benefit the jockey.  Some horses like thuds, some like stings and these whips have range to fit that need.
Some whips and crops have a lot of flexibility, which gets that 'whip like a long CB antenna' effect and some have a more rigid shaft which has a cane shaft affect.  Some whips make sound rather than pain, as to some horses will fight the pain and sting but will respond to the sound.  So, it really is very interesting how a whip looks so much the same but, to the equestrian isn't very much the same at all.
 
In using an equestrian whip--the key is a supple wrist and a sharp slap or tap.  The horse's hide is thicker than human but, the effects can be interesting. 
 
The riding crop/whip/bat can be used as a cross between a paddle and cane.

Status: offline 		I am not sure what Norcross GA is like but if you have any farm supply stores, horse tack, any place that sells horse or riding supplies should have all sorts of goodies. Even small town horse auctions usually have tack and supplies prior to selling horses.

LaTigresse has brought up auctions, for leather goods.  Good place but, I would also add, that you don't want to buy any used leather goods.

You'll want to buy over stocked items or discontinued new items.  And, you will want to avoid 'dead leather' which is cheap, dry, cracked or so stiff its got rigger in it.

I would inspect the products first before bidding.

Status: offline 		OoooooK!  Well, I was going to say that my sub has even more toys than I do-he's been in the lifestyle a very long time.  One day I pulled this beautiful crop out of his bag and instantly fell in love with it.  His granddaughter shows horses and he buys everything for her.  When he saw how much I loved it, he gave it to me.  I thanked him and he told me he had plenty more back at the barn.  I've been experimenting with the usage on his ass ever since.  LOL

Status: offline 		a good deal of technique used with canes can be translated into working with crops.  especially the idea that the tip is moving at a much higher speed than the end you're holding.  my all tim fave application of the crop is the inner thigh.  have your intended victim stand spread eagle. place the head of the crop between their legs.  with short, quick movements of the wrist, wave the crop back and forth rapidly causing the slapper to hit the inner thigh.  a piece with a moderate amount of flex in the shaft is best for this kind of application.

iner thigh work...ahhhhhhhhhh.  :)

I was in the backwoods of GA one day and came across a tack shop...i got the most well made crop and leather quirt and the combined total was less that $20.00    An adult /novelty store would have charged 4 times as much for  lessor quality materials.  I love tack shops 

LaTigresse, Norcross is near  Atlanta,  they have the largest tack shop i've ever seen. (if it's the one i'm thinking of)

Oh yummmmmmmmmm... I agree poplolly, I love my quirt!  It's like a little snake with that flicking, split-tongue!  It's only 3' long, too.....so I can use it about anywhere!

Regarding crops; I've found the same crops available at my local feed store (along with several quirts & single-tails, too.  Oh...and those things that look like the OP's pic are available there too; for controling horses...(well, or CBT))  Everything is at least 50% cheaper at a tack store than a Pervie Site.
