I have unwittingly gotten my daddy some dvd's that are in european format, hence they will not play. Where or how can I find dvd players in the correct format?

Most DVD players can play all formats by puting in a code. I'd look at your intruction manual. There can't be many fixed for single regions. Not here anyway.

That depends. Region free players can't necessarily play PAL encoded media. In addition to being region free or region selectable, you need to look at the individual models to see if they can play both PAL and NTSC encoded media.
