Look at common opponents--it's an eye-opener.

I really don't believe the SEC propaganda anymore.  Many SEC teams have been offered home-and-home series with Louisville, and it seems they can't decline the offer fast enough.  They all know they'd get saddled with some bad out-of-conference losses if they went for it.

Donchall think that if Rutgers manages to win this, they should be ranked No. 3 in the nation?  I do.

Nope. I just think this gives fuel to the argument that Looeyville was overranked and they ought to get a defense to match that offense.

I don't think either one of them would be undefeated before tonight if they had a steady diet of SEC, Big Ten or other teams on their schedules.

Mr. Negative...don't burst my bubble.

Ohio State-Rutgers for the national championship.

You read it here first.

You gotta feel good for a smaller school who actually graduates their players!

The father person played for Texas a long time ago, and is a really big Rutgers fan right now.

Okay, who's going to bet on Rutgers? [X(]

I admire the shat out of them for turning things around, but know that every swinging dingaling that works for the BCS will have their prayer beads moistened to keep the Scarlet Knights out of the title game.

Really? I'm curious which ones. It has only been since about 2000 that Louisville has had pretty good teams, so any scheduling done now would be for 8 or more years in the future.

I've heard some SEC schools dodge tough out of conference games claiming the SEC is already too hard, but I don't really see it --  some already have non-conference rivals to toughen the schedules like Geogria - GT, UF - FSU, and South Carolina - Clemson; Auburn has had tough OOC games including USC just a couple of years ago; Tennesee has had ND and Cal recently, and Alabama has Penn State in a couple of years.

Anyway, good win for Rutgers tonight. Kinda funny that the best Big East team now is only ranked 14th though that should change next week; but that makes them better than the ACC which includes the Big East defectors (BC, VT, and thUg U) and whose best team now is ranked 18th.

Heard it on the telly (from one of those college-football eggheads).  I'll look into it.

Rutgers done good! And Texas thanks it ;-)

Rutgers will make a big jump up in the rankings but I don't think the voters will put it at number 3.  Amongst the one-loss teams, I think Texas has the best odds for finishing at number 2. USC has the most to gain with the strength of its remaining schedule, and as great a chance to lose.

I predict Texas in the championship against....well, let's just see what happens on Nov 18th ;-)

Cheers,

Sea

happypervert -> RE: Louisville-Rutgers (11/10/2006 8:11:52 AM)

Well, I bet what has happened is that Louisville was probably considered an automatic win back when thUg U and K State scheduled their games for this season, but unfortunately for those two teams Louisville got a LOT better. So now they are considered a quality OOC opponent instead of a punching bag, and most teams that aspire to having a shot at a national championship don't want any more than one tough OOC game per year . . . if that.

So I bet SEC teams that already have tough OOC games scheduled aren't interested in adding another, and the ones who are still shopping around may look at more familiar (and marketable), names such as UCLA, Iowa, or Boston College among others. Although Louisville has been playing some good football recently, I don't think they are yet established as a marketable brand. That would make them a risky pick right now for an athletic director because by the time the games are played Petrino will probably be hired away (ask Auburn fans about THAT) and they could return to mediocrity. Although the risk that an opponent will suck exists with any team, the financial risk is mitigated if the opponent is a well established brand name.

Anyway, that's my guess on it.

Lordandmaster -> RE: Louisville-Rutgers (11/10/2006 8:31:49 AM)

Well, yeah, but Louisville has been a strong team for a while now.  (In fact, they were already starting to get good under John L. Smith--I think they were 11-2 one year--though he never got them quite to the level where they are now.)  Anyway, they lost to Thug U last year, but they were the better team overall.  Thug U cannot have been happy to play them this year.

Yeah, that 11-2 season was in 2001 though they didn't play any powerhouse teams that year; in '02 they beat Florida State and opened a lot of eyes.

If you like investigating stats like that, here are a few links:

and here's fun site if you want to see things like how 2-9 Illinois was better than 9-3 Auburn last year:
