Microsoft isn't working right the pc is slower than it should be and spysweet an defrag isn't helping either. I was wondering if it'd be benifitial to keep a pc running smoothly long term if every 6 months you take everything off and reinstall everything? Or wuld you just be shooting yourself in the foot.

What I have found helpful is running more than one spyware program, since one can pick up something the other may have missed.

"CrapCleaner" is a free download (just do a search for it, the site will come up) and it keeps me running great.  It cleans out the temp files & cookies, and other things that junk up the machine.

Actually "log out" of sites like this one and other ones after you visit them, rather than just closing them down (with the big X at the upper right corner), or skipping directly to another site, because they can still stay sort of running in the background, which can slow you down.

Online game and poker sites, and music peer-to-peer shareware sites are notorious for attaching a lot of spyware and other crap that can really slow you down.  Be careful with those.

There should be no reason to have to do a fresh install of Windows every 6 months unless you are very bored and have nothing better to do. If your information is backed up and you will not lose files that you want, reformatting and reinstalling Windows is a way to keep your system in tip top shape... however if there is no reason to do that, why bother? Learn to fix what you have and get decent full system utility software that will do things that the Windows utilities will not.

It is not clear to me how shooting yourself is going to make windows run any faster, but if that is going to be the solution you choose, tell us how it turns out, K?
