How many people write in their Journal and what is the purpose? I am asking because I am trying to understand the purpose of an online journal. I guess I am still in the frame of mind that journals are supposed to be personal and I can't see the purpose of everyone reading what is supposed to be your deepest intimate thoughts. Please share I am really interested.

Cuz maybe they can learn from you? I dunno.

Most often I find it to be a useful tool for me to be able to see what is going on in those that serve or seek to serve me's minds.

Although I do have an option to give them a private journal only we could see - sometimes it can also be a small matter of humiliation or an exhibitionistic outlet depending on the person.

I write in mine occasionally. I do it because I'd like to meet someone I'd be compatible with on more than just an animal level, so I write random stuff in there because my profile essay didn't didn't capture the part of me that is informal and clowns around. I suppose I could have written "I'm informal and have a sense of humor", but statements like that can seem kinda hollow if the writing doesn't reflect it, so I think I've been able to get those points across in the journal.

I'm sure it is debatable how useful it is to babble about movies, football, politics, and other assorted stuff. But I figure there's a chance some gal may read it and decide to say hi, and if one was thinking of saying hi but changes her mind after reading the journal that is fine too because it saves us both time we might have spent getting to find out we don't like each other.

I don't. I'd rather people learn about me from me. In person or the closest to in person as we can be here.
I know a lot of online doms ask submissives to write in journals. I met many while looking. Yet, once they brought up that...I discarded them right away. If you can't even take the time to speak to me to know if you like me or not, well you really aren't worth my time. Relationships usually start on a high note. If you start low, where do you have to go?

Anyway, so I am a bit against them. If I just wanted to throw my opinions out there without any input what so ever. Yep, I'd be into writing journals.
