Are you discussing this depression with him regularily?  Is it something that is situational in your life and will be passing shortly?  Is it 20 something angst?  Is it medical......

Or are you doing the big sigh...............and when questioned, giving false answers and saying that tired ol' .....nnnnnnnnnnnnuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuthing?

Bottom line, rule the world, is this common one line posts of uncertain content and meaning are going to bring out a lot of quasi-psycho-iatrists (as  might also a post written in war and peace style) but  it is difficult to say  something meaningful when nothing meaningful has been said.  Know whadda' mean, Vern?

It is no more common for a slave to be depressed than it is for any other person on this planet to be depressed.  A person's relationship choice does not automatically make them more susceptible mental illness.

Considering the fact that you are pregnant it is more likely that your emotional state is due to that than your choice to be a slave.

No, it is not common.

Have you spoken to him about why you are depressed?

You have said you have become depressed about "some things", so I guess you know what they are? If you do try and work on them. It may just be a hormonal thing, what with you being pregnant and all.
I dont think its any more common though for a slave to feel depressed than a Dom or anyone else for that matter.
Good luck with working it out though. I hope its just a hormonal thing and will pass in time.

She tells us in another post on another thread. I remembered and thought this might be why.

Ohh I see, thanks.  I don't read all the threads, just the ones that catch my eye from the teasers on the left side of the page!  And you're right - that could be the reason - hormones do strange things to us sometimes!

Depression is one of the most common and most serious mental health problems in our society.

It has been mentioned that you are pregnant. Most people think pregnancy is supposed to be a time of joy or happiness. That a woman should glow, but that is not the reality for ALL women.

Many doctors beleive that the rapid increase in hormone levels at the start of the pregnancy can disrupt the brain chemist and lead to depression.

IF you are pregnanty please don't chalk it up to simply being moody. Weather your pregnant or not talk to your doctor because your emotional health can and does affect your physical health.

Now on a personal level,

I am bi-polar. I often have bouts of extreme depression. It was very hard for my owner not to allow it to affect him in a negative way. Now he reminds himself that my depression is due to an inbalance within me, in reality is has NOTHING to do with him.

Looking back, I can honestly say that when my manic episodes affected  him in negative way(drove him insane) my anxiety level rose, my guilt level rose, and my ability to deal with my disorder plumetted.

All he can do is help me take it easy, allow me to talk it out(verbally or through journaling), hold me tight and cherish me, force me to manage my stress level and avoid things that may trigger a chemical change (ie alchohol, drugs, lack of sleep, ect). Being in a relationship with someone who suffers from depression is not easy, though relationships in general are not easy but they can not only survive they can blossom.

I wish you both the best.

Pregnant and depressed, that's a bad combination. It makes you much more susceptible to postpartum depression. Short term therapy during the pregnancy will help in avoiding that as will getting 15 minutes minimum daily of sunshine on your hands and face. The other thing you could try is a light box, although sitting under them for two hours every morning sounds like a major pain to me. No herbal remedies please unless they're proven safe for pregnant women.

It is natural to be afraid of the major changes in your life and your body. After all, you've embarked on a train ride and you can't get off until the end. Talk to your partner and please talk to your doctor.

All change good and bad can cause depression.  And as i recall you are also looking for another slave to add to the house hold.  That would depress me even if it would please Sir.  Ok yep that has been my issue but would help if you would share more about what you are depressed about so we can help on a more personal basis rather than guessing.  Remember depression does hurt and it hurts all involved so please open up to your Master and share with Him how you are feeling.

If I remember right, you are the gal that is pregnant.  It is a major life change, albeit a happy one for most.  Changes, good or bad, have the same stressful efect on the human body.  Add that to the fact that you're young and on the pregnancy hormonal  rollercoaster, it can be a tough ride.  Talk to your ob/gyn about it.  It is not uncommon for women to suffer depression and less oftten post partum psychosis.  It's not something that you can just snap out of on your own.
Have you found the third that you were looking to bring into the relationship?  Perhaps this isnt the right time for that. It might be to your benefit to adjust to having a new little one in the house before bringing in the added work of establishing the dynamic of a third party into the loving relationship.
Take care,     B.

As a mental health provider, i know depression is a very serious mental illness that needs medical and cognitive attention.  However, depression can be a symptom of many other things such as diabetes or thyroid problems.  Depression can also be considered situational such as after the loss of a love, having a baby or during pregnancy and many medical issues can bring about hormonal imbalances that can occur bringing depressive symptoms to be increased.  Depression effects approximately 15% of people in the United States alone not to mention the world.  The “commonality” of it exists in the lifestyle not because W/we are slaves/submissives or Tops/Owners but humans.
i would highly suggest speaking to your Owner/Master about the seriousness of this depression you are experiencing.  Ask Him/Her to support you by documenting your depressive symptoms and helping you to communicate those things to your medical doctor.  Your medical doctor may start with a physical or other medical tests or may refer you to a psychiatrist (a medical doctor that is specialized in depression) and or a therapist.  Ask your Master to help you ask important questions while meeting your medical doctor and remember what you agreed to with your provider.  It may be necessary to also obtain some cognitive advise with and without your Master present as you may need to obtain coping skills and education about what you are experiencing.  Communicate with your Master about things to they can do to help you during this time that will be helpful and things to not do during this time that will may cause further problems.  However, don’t use “depression” to get out of things you just don’t want to do – trust me Masters/Mistresses tend to know the difference.  If you need help to obtain either a medical provider or mental health provider please feel free to contact me.

To the OP, one line message about being depressed about "some things". So are you perfectly normal when not thinking about or doing those "some things"? Because if so that is not so much about depression as much as having problems and not working through them.

Depression is not normal in this life. It is the same for everyone. Some are more prone to others and the ones prone can be very minor to severe. If you are truly feeling severely depressed and it is 24/7 then go see a doctor and stop trying to rationalize it. There is nobody on this board whether with medical experience, depression or knows of others that can write any magic words to make you better. You need to deal with the problem and that requires confronting yourself and going from there. My suggestion again, see your doctor.   Good luck,   Lin

i agree fully. Your pregnancy (hormones) can cause depression. But not always. Go to a doctor, be safe. and don't think that you can solve it by yourself when you are depressed for a longer period. Don't take a risk.  And further you have my love and sympathy.

Go to doctor and also start some meditation classes.

Re the meditation classes, don't choose ones that send you down a fairy path to meet the leprechaun who has been your guide your entire life but ones focused on developing concentration and stilling the mind.

Vippasana Meditation is very good, its a buddhist type of meditation, all it takes to practice is to be conscious of your breath and to treat your thoughts as you would view clouds passing by in the sky, they are there, but your not worried about them and don't associate with them. When you do that, your mind stills and you can be in the present, rather than allowing your mind to run down corridors and enter doorways that have spooky or sad things in them. Great thing about that type of meditation is, it doesn't really take any special circumstances to practice it, you can do it while your washing the dishes

apparently one in 4 people experience mental health issues at some time and the majority of them from some form of depression so you're not alone. Master and i are both on meds for depression, a good doctor should be able to help, as well as talking therapy - in my experience drugs alone aren't much use.
i also find meditation very useful, you can even get some pretty decent guided meditation or relaxation cds these days if there isn't a class near you.
Good luck and congratulations on the pregnancy,
wench
