Rope Bondage, I would like to get into using rope in some of my sessions, but not sure what kind of rope to use with my submission.
I am looking something that will not leave burn or any permement marks on my submissives when using them.
Can some one give me some suggestions.

Submission is her attitude, submissive is who she is. Rant over now.

He just buys a synthetic rope(polypropolene?) at Home Depot that feels soft. The thicker the rope, the less it will cut into the skin and leave bruises. The more times it is wrapped around, the less the pressure is on any one spot. Additionally you should be able to have one finger between the rope and her skin to prevent it overtightening.

There probably will be rope marks for a couple of hours afterwards, at least I usually have them. But permanent? I can't imagine that happening. The things to watch out for are the wrapped parts getting cold and changing color, those are bad things. If she really enjoys it then you can't trust on her telling you when a wrist goes numb because she may not even notice it, that's your job. Just keep touching her.

Burns come from pulling the rope fast, if instead you just wrap slowly there shouldn't be any rope burns.

Nylon rope in 1/4 or 3/8" is your best bet. At Home Depot you will find two types, the cheap rope, usually just called nylon braid or the more expensive called solid core nylon. the more expensive is the best and well worth the expense. It is softer and easier to use, especially when tying your knots.

I do love rope for bondage but it's not as simple as it looks.  Esp with a new submissive, it can be difficult to find the right balance in her not being able to escape but at the same time not harming her.  And I like it to look good, too!  While I abhor any possibility of injury or permanent marks, most subs adore their rope marks afterwards and I love that, too!

While it's not as soft as I'd prefer, the fine corded poly rope that's common these days is my preference because it looks neat, comes in all manner of colours and is relatively cheap.  I wouldn't recommend the courser 3 corded nylon rope because it's not as flexible and knots tend to pull apart and it's difficult to find that right balance mentioned above.

And it's just a personal thing but I dilike traditional hemp rope because it can itch and distract her from sinking into sub-space.  There are ways to treat or soften it but I'm simply not into it.  But if you can find a decent length of that ultra soft rope often used in ornamental curtains, you're on a real winner!

Try window sash cord, available from hardware stores.  It's usually made of cotton - it's softer than hemp or synthetic ropes, and knots hold well but it is more expensive.  10mm is a good diameter.

Most hardware stores sell 100 ft of rope for 10 bucks in lots of colors. It looks like rope climbing rope (but it isn't because it isn't rated for weight). Buy that rope and cut it into 3 or 4 lengths and you will see a white inner core. Take out the inner core, and then melt the ends (mold the ends with your fingertips - being careful not to burn your fingers - while it is cooling so there aren't any rough spots to hurt a sub's body). You are left with a very flexible rope, comes in lots of colors, and cheap enough that there is no worry if it gets snagged or you want to cut it off of her in a dramatic scene.

Permanent rope marks tend to come from tightening the rope after it is on the sub's body, hence it slides along her skin and causes friction burns. ANY kind of rope can do this. The change should not be kind of rope, it should be how you handle tightening ropes. You can find out how fast you can pull a rope during normal course of bondage stuff by holding it in one hand and pulling with the other and noticing how fast leads to uncomfortable heat/pain. It's a good idea anyway to run your rope through your hands at least once each session before putting it on a sub's body because you will notice if the rope has picked up any stray staples or prickly things that would hurt the sub during bondage.

Almost every kind of rope has a use at one point or another, and you are going to end up wanting to practice to find out what kinds of rope you like best. I would recommend searching for a "rope gauntlet" and learning how to tie it on your leg, or something similar, and using a newly purchased rope to tie it a few times. That will tell you the things you want to know about whether it holds knots, whether it slips out of position, how fast you can pull it without rope burn, etc. I have a huge tub of rope that goes everywhere from 1/2" thick solid braided poly to 6mm soft washed hemp, from Home Depot cheap colored $10 special to rope I paid 2 or 3 dollars a foot for because it glows in black light. And everywhere in between.

But the $10 colored Home Depot special (after you take out the core) is what I recommend as a good starting place.

~Ms. Elorin

PS
If you are looking at hemp or jute rope, make sure to find out if they have any grass seed allergies first, or you may end up with allergic reaction in your sub.

Screw the rope. Go with chain and leather bracers with bunny fur on the inside. It makes bondage and releasing easier and faster.

rope burns come with the activity... even if the bottom remains completely still there is still a good chance that rope burns will happen

if you don't want to leave marks use plastic wrap

go into the hardware store, lay a length of rope over your arm, and give it a good pulling snap..............

This will give an indication about its burnie qualities.

When you go to the next type you want to try, don't use exactly the same place on your arm. DUH!!!

(the snide comment was in there for reason, it is one reason I hate to give advice 'in the clear' as it were.)

It's getting remarkably difficult to find these days, but I've always liked cotton clothesline.  A few trips through the wash/dry cycle, and it's soft, flexible, holds knots well, and doesn't often leave burns.

Good luck in finding it, though.

My very favorite rope to both wear and use is the flat rope they sell at Rainbow Ropes (there are probably other places that sell it - you can probably google to find and compare if you're so inclined). It lays nicely against the skin, is soft, flexible and is far less prone to leaving marks than standard rounds. That said, you get what you pay for, so it is more expensive than going down to the local Home Depot and purchasing a couple of hundred feet of perfectly acceptable, high quality rope which may be all that you need.

http://rainbowrope.com has a huge variety (their products are very soft) and they can cut to any length and have different widths as well .. and there are bunches of different colors from which to choose (they will even do custom rainbow work for you). They also have tips on how to care for your rope to keep it in good condition.

Once I had this used on me, I never wanted to use anything else, but their delivery can be a bit on the slow side sometime, so order well in advance if you want it for a particular event or scene.

This has been an unpaid endorsement. ::laughs:: I don't work for them or anything, I just really like their product.

Nahhh; while leather cuffs (bracers?) and chain etc all have their place, so does rope!

Rope is "king" as far as I'm concerned and my first choice for teaching my sub what physical control truly means.  With enough effort and determination, a sub can often escape leather cuff bondage, usually when one wrist is cuffed to the other.  Which is why I confine their use for expediently attaching her to the assortment of frames and devices available and in conjunction with other forms of play.  And I like her wearing them about the house in general, as part of maintaining headspace.

But nothing beats rope for demonstrating to a sub, esp a newbie in my life, exactly what it is to be in my control and at my whim.  I love trussing her up and pushing her to wriggle free; usually "riding her" hard in order to achieve that goal.  And once I'm satisfied she truly can't get loose, probably the most valuable lesson I'll ever teach any of my subs is accomplished and she is then "free" to relax until such time as I choose to untie her.

Sure, rope bondage can be time consuming and even exasperating to get right (esp if you've got a perfectionist's obsessive/compulsive thing happening.... lol) but it's first choice for tying someone like you mean it and generally looks so damned good, too!

There's a place for everything....

Rope people who are true shibari enthusiasts are a class unto themselves and take it seriously as both and art and a sport. There are serious considerations to take into account if you are going to get serio0us and not just use that soft cotton stuff people are talking about. If you are going to get artistic as well as kinky about it I suggest taking some serious classes from acknowledged expert such as Ellie the Nomad, Bridgett Harrington, Midori, Lew Rubens, etc. Get lessons on what to watch out for and play with care - nerve damage can be done and you don't want that.

then there's just the tie-em-up-and-watch-em-em squirm-then fuck'em crowd. That's cool too.

I find when we play publically and we do a rope scene, the onlookers split into 2 camps - those that are bored with the time a good shibari tie can take, and those that are fascinated with it all - from my Dom's expert suspensions or groundwork - to my reactions or bliss therein. To each his/her own - I would always advise getting SOME expert input to avoid breaking your favorite toy.

I love the looks of shibari, I love the attention to detail, but honestly, where can a person learn more of this when they live in bfe? I've previously only done the quick handcuff or silk scarf thing (you do what you know until you finally find like minded people who aide in your concept of what it is you've been wanting to expand to). Yes, it would be great drive four to six hours (round trip) to find someone, who may or may not show up, to show you the 'ropes', but that's not always realistic in day to day life.

seriously?  To know shibari you really only need to know about three knots.I don't know your background Big Nipps but that has me stuck out right there.

If the package being trussed is male or female, no matter.
like stringing up a turkey for thanksgiving

So, if you go to the tying sites, or anything, the idea of a turtle harness or whatever is that of a cargo net............
a fishnet, whatever
from there I have alot of tying points on your body
but nin hojojutsu is just as you say, it is random and serves a purpose, not ment to hold you for long times but to slow you down............

I am not explaining this wekll, and confusing you, so I will stop here..........

Ron (but it ain't hard to do or pick up)

Thank you Ron, I always value your insight. The not hard to do part is comforting. I'll check out the different tying methods.
