The wicked with of the East represented Wall Street; her western sister represented banks that foreclosed on farmers. There's a great sidebar on this in America's History by Henretta et al. The book's at work, though, so you're spared further detail!

ROFLMAO My sister bought a house in Phoenix. My niece was 5 at the time. Next door was an 80+ yr old lady that had been one of the munchkins. My niece ran in the house all excited because they had a little girl for her to play with next door.
