KarbonCopy -> Floam Sex toys. (11/13/2006 9:05:08 PM)

Okay so first of all I'd like to make it clear that this is NOT my idea lol.

I run a private forum on another bigger site that deals with the BDSM culture and D/s lifestyle.
First problem is that it is a site targeted to a very wide age demographic, so I use the forum as a haven for those who feel different for their interests.
Somewhere where they can learn about the lifestyle ,learn to be safe, and not get wrapped up in the wrong crowd.

Not being able to control my forum 24/7 its been brought to my attention that someone came up with the bright idea of using the Kids Toy substance named FLOAM, as a material to craft sex toys, like buttplugs.
And other members supporting this idea. Of course I put an end to it immediatly, but I was so taken back by the sheer stupidity of the idea that I just had to share this horrible example of what happens when you lock a bunch of hormone crazed kids in a room to guide eachother.

I didnt know where to scream in horror that someone would push the idea, or laugh. I think I did both.
Anyways, now that I've got them straightened out, and feeling foolish for not asking someone that actually had a clue, thigns are good, and mabey we can all learn to get a laugh out of this.

Why would you put an end to it or scream with horror?  People have been perverting similar vanilla objects like Fimo and Friendly Plastic since long before you came to be. There's nothing horrible about it at all.

Advising a youngster to insert objects made from polysterene just sets red flags a flappin.

Youngsters indeed.  Well there old timer, for decades folks have been using these things called condoms to protect themselves from deleterious effects when inserting all manner of non-penile objects into their various bodily orifices.  It seems to me that it might have been slightly more prudent to make such a suggestion rather than dropping the hammer on these experimenting folk.  Wouldn't you agree?

Normally I'd give these particular grouplings, the benefit of the doubt,
but they've proven to dissapoint.

But of course, using a condom (and condoms NEVER break down) would make anything okay to insert into themselves right?

Pity, it seems to be going around.

Of course!  Grenades, sea urchins, porcupines, broken bottles, caltrops...  ALL bow before the awesome power of the mighty condom!

Let's look at a worst case scenario for a moment here.  Some enterprising whippersnapper gets it into their casaba that they want to make a monster dildo out of this deadly material (actually, it's non-toxic, consisting primarily of clay and polystyrene beads, but please don't let a little thing like the truth get in the way of our tale here, ok?  Ok.)  They create their masterpiece, let it harden overnight and first thing in the morning (after brushing and flossing because oral hygiene is *very* important) they throw a condom on it and go to town.

All is well until  *gasp*  the condom breaks!  Oh no!  Because we all know that Floam is really (no, not really) made of dioxin and anti-matter, our young protagonist develops a severe split-second case of chloracne then EXPLODES from contact with the anti-matter.  Thank god you were here to stop this from taking place.  We should thank you for saving these unenlightened darlings from becoming victims to the terrible sins called creativity and ingenuity.  Bless you, child!  Bless you!

Back to reality.  It's not as though they are jamming lit sticks of dynamite up their butts and since this is being marketed to 5 year olds who will eat next to anything, it's a safe bet that no one is going to get hurt by such intimate explorations.

The only thing that I would be concerned about would be that it wouldn't stay together and would prove difficult to remove - condom-covered or not.  It is marketed to be non-toxic, so I don't know that it's all that dangerous other than the possibility of it falling apart while inserted.

Can we not be condescending to one another when the person being criticised is worried about someone else's health?

DiurnalVampire -> RE: Floam Sex toys. (11/14/2006 11:18:34 PM)

Floam doesnt hold shape well, at all.  Its sticky, does not firm up until it is dried in which case it is rough on the outside. Overal, I cant see where it would make a terribly good sex toy, becsaue unless you wanted a one-time use for it, and let it get hard... it would probably not keep its shape with th epressure of an insertion.

My humble opinion, having had to clean the stuff up often ienough in our store to be very familiar with its properties.

Priceless -> RE: Floam Sex toys. (11/15/2006 5:24:23 AM)

but what if it broke and they were "sitting" with half of it up in, lets say a girls private parts, that could require medical attention.

QuietDom -> RE: Floam Sex toys. (11/15/2006 6:57:23 AM)

So lets discuss what would be a better substitute for this Floam stuff, then.  Friendly Plastic has already been mentioned (I had a chance to buy a bulk lot at surplus prices once, passed it up, and the opportunity never came by again.)

The book 21st Century Kinkycrafts suggests making dildos and butt-toys by putting thick foam pipe-insulation around a rigid core (PVC pipe or a dowel,) carving the insulation to a desired shape, wrapping it in electrical tape, and then coating the whole thing in Plasti-Dip.  (Beware of the nasty toxic chemicals in Plasti-Dip.  Theoretically they're all gone once the dip has fully cured, but the editors still recommend using a condom on your new toy.)

Any other good materials for the purpose?
