My surname isn't very common. Apparently less than 450 in the world, half in Britain but it is common enough to have two people with exactly the same name as me and around the same age, one living here in Holland and one living near where I grew up (around the area the name originated from) so anyone searching me are going to think I lead a really really full life.

it's amazing what can be found out online

Not sure if it is still so but for a long time you could type in a phone number & get the account holder's info with full name & address.

That's a whole lot scarier than correlating screen names over various servers.

I did a similar thing about 2 years ago, I put My real name into google and out popped information about what communities I belong to, specifically BDSM related things. I was pretty shocked but no-one who isn't already into BDSM has any idea about My interests so I'm ok until I get rich and famous, then I'll be in trouble lol.

i use the same nic on several different site, or at least different versions of it due to their formats... i'm not worried about the vanilla world finding out about me or anything like that... if you google DarchChylde or darch_chylde, you get me; i'm unique [:D]

I use to use the same nik on several different web sites.  This was okay until I got into blogging.  My blog became really popular so I thought and then I googled my screen name and just about messed my pants.  I knew I had been popular but no idea that I had become that popular.  Because I had used the same nick on several different sites it was really easy to connect all those dots.  Anyways, I killed my blog and never have used that screen name again!  I really am not sure why.  At the time I was excited because on average about 20-50 new people per day was reading my blog but when I relised how easy it was when you actually did connect the dots between the sites to tell who I was .... I had allways figured I was to common for my opinion to really matter so I didnt think that much about what I wrote about... then figured that the thousands that were reading my blog every morning after the news kind of creeped me out. A lot of the people that had read me were also writing about me and my thoughts and ideas so between them and me... everything was all snowballed...

As so many others i looked the hits for  ZenDragoness up, i do it regularly and what do i find? The first time is there another ZenDragoness, so i wrote her a mail if she invented the nickname by herself or copycatted mine ( much more polite naturally!) and she answered (polite but equally pissed as i am as i found her), that she made the name herself and that she like me did not came across the nickname somewhere else.

We exchanged the way to the  nick and parted on friendly dragoness terms.....
