Thanksgiving is starting to suck when you're on a low card diet. Turkey, ham, salad, and half a potato. No pecan pie, no sweet potato with marshmellos, no yams, no fruit salad, cookies, brownies, stuffing, nor gravey. I can't have my cake and eat it to. That's life.

My menu is a cross between Erin's and windychymes :)

the only big debate we have every year at my house is stuffing with or without raisins

so we always serve two kinds

am now off to google turkyducken whatnot :)

I love being on Weight Watchers because this way I can still eat Thanksgiving food and stick to my diet.

Well so far I have to bake 27 pies for customers at our restaurant. By the time Thanksgiving actually comes, I think I'm going to be happy with a nice bowl of mac n' cheese. Maybe some cranberry sauce on the side, 'cause I can't get enough of that sticky sweet jellied goodness.

If you are a diabetic you should try Splenda:

www.splenda.com

Or Stevia (which is harder to find).

But you can cook with Splenda and they even have Splenda brown sugar blend.  I'd strongly suggest using that rather than "being bad."

LOL kisshou, I know it can look funny, but remember, you're mainly dealing with turkey, duck, and chicken, and some dressing [:D]. And it looks better in person, than on some of those sites.

RosaB -> RE: Thanksgiving Menu Plans - Calling all Foodies (11/16/2006 3:58:33 PM)

Since my broom is broken and I won't be flying back up to NY this year, I will be cooking at a local children's group home.  I haven't any idea what exact dish I will be preparing, but I'm looking forward to participating with the other volunteers in the preperations.  I was supposed to spend a few days over with friends, where each of us were to prepare a couple of dishes of our choice;  Unfortunately, I anticipate, some serious heat between two of the friends and it won't be coming from the cooking appliances.  When in the company of others, that's just not the atmosphere I'm used to being in during holidays and I'm not about to start subjecting myself to it now.   I don't want my good past memories spoiled over nonsense.  Believe me a lot of thought went into my decision.  If I were to go, I'd be trapped there for two to three days, with no means of escape; at least not till one of the bickering parties decided to drive me home.  I'm not willing to be at either of their mercy I'm not a masochist.

But last year, I cooked the entire dinner myself.  I cooked for my nephews, nieces, my daughter and her family,  I received ravvvvvvve reviews for my bird.  If you are a novice turkey cooker, try giving one of those oven bags a try, you will be glad you did.  You will get a practically flawless bird with very few steps.

Hope all your dishes come out gobble gobble delicious.  [:D]

Rosa

Kudos to you, Rosa, for volunteering your time [;)]. And I agree totally about avoiding a holiday full of fighting and bullshit, as well as your tip on cooking bags. My sister in law has used them before, and they worked great. Have a good and safe one, my friend.

RosaB -> RE: Thanksgiving Menu Plans - Calling all Foodies (11/17/2006 6:29:48 AM)

Thank you Level.  I wish you a very satisfying, happy safe one as well.

Rosa
