Angel,
Check out mackenziecross.ca.....an interactive info site dealing with the D/s lifestyle. I would consider starting there, then go to sites like castlerealm.

The Mackenzie Cross site does indeed have some good articles I could share with her.   Thank you so much for sharing it!  [:)]

What It Is That We Do

BRNaughtyAngel -> RE: Website suggestion for explaining WIITWD to a vanilla friend? (11/19/2006 8:40:10 AM)

Just wanted to post a quick update.  I used some of the information on the Mackenzie Cross site to send to my friend, then added some personal insights.  As I knew she would, she accepted this about me, and has been asking lots of questions.  She said the article helped to give her an overview of D/s, and I explained that there's a lot more to the whole BDSM lifestyle and that everyone lives it in the way that works best for them, engaging in what activities they enjoy, etc...

So now when she and I talk about our respective relationships, I don't have to stumble over myself trying to explain mine without saying too much. [sm=smile.gif]  I can speak more freely about it, which I'm sure will invoke more questions from her, and I'm okay with that! [:)]

Thank you all again for your help!

Was thinking of your post and saw this, adding it a day late and dollar short. (smiles)

That's wonderful BRNaughty.  It is frustrating to have to watch what you say to your close vanilla friends.  i remember when my closest friend was talking about how her aunt defers to her husband in everything, even what she wears.  She looked at me and said "i mean, you wouldn't let a man tell you how to dress would you?"

lol.  this is supposed to be my best friend, but i just gulped and said.  "Hell no!" just as i was expected.

darksdesire -> RE: Website suggestion for explaining WIITWD to a vanilla friend? (11/19/2006 8:14:02 PM)

Oh yeah.  You probably have plenty of resources by now, but my favorite article is "the healthy submissive."  because it explains the submissive mindset in such a beautiful way...the healthy submissive mindset.  i found it early on when i started, and i was moved to tears by it.

A little on the late side, but perhaps helpful to others who might look here...

I can't vouch for the contents, but here's a possible site:

http://www.xeromag.com/fvbdsm.html

An excerpt:

In particular, BDSM is NOT abuse!
People who are practicing BDSM in any of its trillions of forms are doing it voluntarily, for fun. It's a way to explore. Everything that happens in a BDSM relationship is consensual; and believe it or not, it's not just about the dominant getting what he or she wants--it's more about the submissive getting what he or she wants. An abuser has no regard for the feelings, needs, or limits of the victim. A BDSM dominant is concerned above all else with the needs and desires of the submissive. Pretty straightforward, really.

so, is she coming to the site, have you just created another sick bastard, or what, does she want to meet me?

To explain sensation play, have your friend gently rake her own nails across the under side of her arm from wrist to elbow. Then have her slap the same area repeatedly (as hard of as gentle as she wants) until the skin blushes. Have her rake her nails over the skin again to feel the difference. i know it sounds simple, but i used this exercise when i lectured at a university, and with a few curious vanilla friends. It opens them up to the possibilities of the sensation play part of BDSM.

Hope this helps~*

Your question is the original reason I had developed my web site. It was designed as a place where people who are curious, or even long time lifestylers, could find information, or even share it. I had to take the original site down a few years back due to conflicts with real world and my bdsm lifestyle, but I've actually started trying to redevelop it again, although I wish I had more time to add so much of the articles and fiction that used to be on it before. I kind of went a different direction by focusing it on a blog and then having pages to pull up from behind the blog.

Ahahahahaha well I didn't tell her about THIS site Ron.  A girl does have to have some secrets, ya know? [:)]

But should she express an interest in exploring her inner naughty girl, I'll be sure to send her your way. [sm=hewah.gif] LOL!

And thank you to the others who have posted more site suggestions.  I am bookmarking them all, as I love to read.

http://www.drkdesyre.com.  caryl's BDSM Page has been around forever and is a bastion of information.  So over some good food and fine wine school, your friend and deepen your friendship.

Wonderful way to start the day....sign onto collarme me.  Read this..and think to myself...so does that mean I've been around forever?
I remember when Caryl was starting the website.  Seems like less than ten year's ago to me.  Though I'm sure she could tell you better exactly when it was.  I'd say 8, it was when we were meeting at munches yet I hadn't started my own BDSM group yet.
In any event, makes a person sound old when you put it that way.

I run into this a lot.  Now that I am back in school, I find that much of our dicussion about various works of literature center around how "unfortunate" the poor protagonist was, in being so repressed by her man.....when what I read was actually an ideal situation, in my opinion!  It's hard to partake in such discussions.  I will usually comment that some women prefer to have a head of household.

Even my close friends who try to understand me are limited in their ability.  I find it frustrating at time, to hear their commentary.  They love me...and think they are looking out for me, particularly after seeing me become so hurt in a bad marriage.  But comments like, "Girl, you just tell him to get his ass up here and take you out tonight!" become tiresome and annoying.  They mean well.  I only respond by saying, "That's not how our relationship is structured" but that sometimes invites even more commentary.    Then there's the comment:  "I can only see this ending in pain."  What to do but shrug it off and talk less about it.  I give them credit for trying, but it's still rough sometimes.
