What famous people have you seen in person (apart from on stage etc) or even met? Where and when? And for what are/were they famous?

I'll start;

I met Rik Mayall (The Young Ones, Bottom, Hotel Paradisio et al) in a pub in Wolverhampton once. He was due on stage in about an hour, for a stage show version of Bottom, and was drinking like a fish.

I have been very lucky and blessed in this aspect I think...

I met at the age of 17 Prime Minister Simitis of Greece when he visited Poland in an official visit, and stopped by the Greek embassy in Warsaw; my friend was the ambassador's son, so he arranged for a quick hello with him, I shook his hand, and then we took a picture.

Then in 1999, I met president Alberto Fujimori of Peru...he was an authoritarian with a democratic fascade who ruled Peru from 1992 until he left for exile to Japan in 2000 after massive protests when he tried to get re-elected for a third term. I met him at the lobby of the Copley Plaza Marriot in Boston, as he was enrolling his son, also by the name of Alberto at BU (if I recall correctly)...as we approached (me and my mother) security came out from all over the place, but he was friendly and let us approach him...we took a picture as well....at the time I didn't think he was corrupt (at that time no one really knew), and congratulated him on the end of terrorism in his country and praised his economic efforts...looking back that seems a bit funny.

For new years in 2000, in a posh party at the Hyatt hotel in Santiago, Chile, I met former Miss Universe (1987) and former Miss Chile, Cecilia Bolocco, who is well known over there as she is the host for a variety of local tv shows...also hugged her for new years, and took a pciture.

then on 17th of August, 2006, I met the new Chilean president, Michelle Bachelet, Chile's first woman president, democratically elected, a true democrat, a socialist (by socialist, this means like the ones in Spain or prevalent in western Europe), and someone who looks to the future...while I disliked her when she was on campaign, her human touch has really made a difference and helped heal the wounds of past divisions in local politics (between those who supported the Allende regime, who were later persecuted, and those who supported the Pinochet dictatorship afterwards)...I met her when she was inagurating a new cultural center in Santiago, by a local artist (Parra)...I was lkucky enough to position myself close to the podium, and when I noticed the minister of culture talking to the artist, and the president looking bored, I tapped her in the shoulder (security was more lax because there is no fear of political attempts, as well as to the fact that this was by invitation to local diplomats and businessmen, mostly). After tapping her in the shoulder, she turned around and smiled, and after I congratulated her for her work as president, I told her I came from far away, and wished to take a picture...what made this vert funny was that she asked the minister of culture to take the picture...I still cannot believe that happened.

Status: offline 		i was a server in a restaurant in Studio City CA for 5 years... i have had the honer and not so honer of meeting many. many famous ppl... Writers, producers, movie stars, television stars... i must admit that meeting Dick Van Dyke, was the greatest honor of all... i cryed like a groupy...

Status: offline 		When I lived in California, I had a job working for an accountant the summer after I graduated from high school.  Barbara Streisand's therapist had an office in the same building and I was in the same elevator with her on a few occasions.
 
I also worked for a retail kitchen and bath supply company in Santa Monica, CA.  One time when I was downstairs on break, I saw Jane Fonda across the room in the retail store.  After she left, I confirmed with the salesman that it really was her.  I was also in a different store at the same time as Linda Gray from Dallas and saw her from a distance.
 
Also when I lived in the Los Angeles area, I was a member of the same church Dee Wallace Stone attended and actually met her.

Status: offline 		When we lived in Alaska , where my brother in  law is a fishing guide. Of course we got to fishing for free with him all the time, even with his clients. "Mr Peterman" from Seinfield was a client. He came often to fish and was one of the most funny and good hearted , down to earth people I have spent some time with.

Status: offline 		Carmen Elektra.  (Hope I spelled that correctly)  I was working security at a casino's tenth anniversary party when she showed up.  She's really short............and I mean REALLY,  REALLY short.  She doesn't really look that way on TV, but she's just as hot in real life.

I have met, had dinner and drinks with all three men from zztop. My first Master was good friends with them.
I have had the priveledge of meeting George Strait, and Willie Nelson.
I have met and had dinner with Mel Gibson.

Ages ago, while working as a waitress, I waited on Whitey Herzog who was a manager for the Kansas City Royals baseball team at the time.  I didn't know who he was, so was not particularly star-struck... but he was nice. 

In later years, during various political events, I met Senators Kay Bailey-Hutchinson and Phil Gramm from Texas.  (Phil is definitely a hugger! )  I've also met George W. Bush on a couple of occasions when he was still Governor.  For some reason, he seemed very, very tall to me but he's just six foot.  Politics aside, he is a very charming man.

Status: offline 		I lived in NYC for a long time, so I had frequent celebrity sightings.  Lisa Ling, who used to be on The View, lived in the apartment next to mine for a few years.  I saw Harrison Ford a bunch of times, but the best was when I was sitting next to him at a restaurant maybe six years ago.  There was bench seating along one wall and he was sitting about two feet away from me.

This is kind of a funny story.  I was having a gross medical test done where I had to collect my urine in these jugs for 48 hours, then drop it off at the hospital.  It was a boiling hot day in NYC in the summer of 2000, I wasn't feeling well, I was disheveled and I was miserable walking through the city with jugs of radioactive pee.  A very tall man was entering the hospital ahead of me and held the door for me, and when I looked into his face to say thank you, it was Brad Pitt.  And I was carrying radioactive pee. 

I went to high school with several children of famous people.  Ivanka Trump and Peter Jennings' son went to school with me, and I met both Peter and Donald.  When Chelsea Clinton visited a friend there, I showed her to the bathroom.   My marine biology lab partner was a member of the Saudi royal family, and, regardless of the politics, he was really lovely, very considerate.  Lauren Ambrose  from "Six Feet Under" was in my algebra class.  She is an amazing singer.  I never met him, but I saw John Cleese of Monty Python fame when he visited the school with his daughter.  I got the opportunity to speak with Nobel Peace Prize winner Desmond Tutu when he gave a lecture at the school.  That was a wonderful experience.

I've danced with the author Nora Roberts a number of times.  And, recently, I met Jaleel White (the actor who played Steve Urkel) when he came into my office to talk about writing a book.

I was there having dinner one night and noticed Harrison Ford having a cocktail
at the bar.  He owned a house not far away and frequented that bar when he was
in town.
I've met Quentin Tarantino and have a signed video jacket of Reservoir Dogs.
My only autograph.  It's framed and hanging on my wall.
Can you tell that I love Quentin?

Rik Mayall just doesnt compare to Harrison Ford, Quentin Tarantino or Mel Gibson, does he?

Neither does he to the Dalai Lama, though for entirely different reasons.

Status: offline 		i've met Linda Blair years ago, James Garner was in San Diego shooting a film once, met Marilyn Chambers while she was in San Diego promoting "Up And Coming", went to Madonna's "Blonde Ambition" concert in Dallas, i also had many opportunitites to see the shooting of "Simon & Simon" while living in San Diego. met Chris Claremont at a comic book store years before X-Men was finally released (he was there in San Diego back in the early 80s promoting the first X-Men movie)

(waits to see if anyone here knows who Chris Claremont is)

Guns (wonderful people), all the members of Faster Pussycat (great guys!), two members of the band Krisiun (kick ass metal band) and the members of Morbid Angel....I had the pleasure of meeting Dimebag before he passed away....he was and always will be the greatest!

Status: offline 		Sweet Black Jesus!  Umm,  It'd take me forever for this.  Take into account that I've worked as security in nightclubs,  concert venues,  strip clubs and sci-fi/fantasy/music conventions for well over a decade.  I've met politicians,  porn stars,  stage actors,  musicians,  comedians,  authors,  artists ... and everything in between.

I've drank with James Doohan.  Girlwatched with Lewis Black.  Sat in Ice T's tour bus.  Came within a few moments of coldcocking Don Dokken if he didn't shut the fuck up.  Been completely skeevied by how 'strange' (and not in a good way) Billy Bob Thorntonis in real life(*). ... the list goes on.

(*) One of the things in his rider was that ANYTHING in the bar more than twenty fives years old had to be removed or covered while he was on property.  I shit you not.
