my freind Jenny takes cash- separates it into envelopes, gets money orders. cased closed. since she lectured me on her way- 3 yrs ago- ive had 3 bounced checks.

her way is better. but i guess i pay for convenience.

When I get hit with a late charge, I call the bank or wherever and explain WHY it was late. They will listen to reason.  I had a check clear just the day after  the end of the grace period for my credit card.

They removed my 3.9% rate and upped it to 11%.  I called and  had them check my account and see that I've been paying on the same day every month for some tine.. this was a fluke that I didn't catch because of the weekend it fell on.  They removed the $39 late fee and returned my percentage to 3.9%

Hello, all I hope everyone is well. Down here in sunny Florida if you get hit with more then two bounced checks or over drafts within  a three year period, they now turn it over to the District Atty's office for prosecution whether you pay them or not. Here it is now a class three felony with up to a year in prison. There is no such thing as a float between when a check is written and when one is called on.  Unlike many years ago, Banks now automatically place electronic holds on checks just like they do on EBT and Credit transactions,  the lead time used to take up too a week to clear a check now it is less then 12 hours. If you use a check at the local Wal-mart or other large retailer they will clear the check in less then two hours.They clear the check electronically and then allow it to pass through the paper processing through their normal clearing house. This way they are not held accountable by the Feds with their funds availability compliance.

Does your bank have on-line banking?  I can check my balance any time and that's a good way to keep track of when you may go into overdraft.

pahunkboy -> RE: i bounced a check (11/21/2006 5:37:52 PM)

i can check it by phone,. appaarently a debit swipe thru it off.

YES! It is worth the $3 a month or whatever it is.

And after a few times I talked to my bank and figured something out.  It takes 24 hours for a withdrawal to post to your account and 48 to 72 hours for a CASH deposit and longer for a check deposit to post.
It may be worth looking into at your bank.

pahunkboy -> RE: i bounced a check (11/22/2006 5:17:28 AM)

as a  courtesy= teh credit union, paid it so others would not bounce.

when banks started changing thier names and raising fees - i went to a credit union.

candystripper -> RE: i bounced a check (11/22/2006 7:49:13 AM)

Pahunkboy, ask the bank assistant manager to waive the $30 fee; and be sure to tell the merchant to redeposit the check.  Usually they will.

Blasphemy!!! Utter blasphemy!

NeedToUseYou -> RE: i bounced a check (11/22/2006 11:13:44 PM)

I used to play that game, Until it cost me 200 dollars. Check then small debits, like sodas, and crap I don't anymore. I never run the account under 500.00 now. No way, I was so pissed and I had an account with them for I think 4 years at the time, and cash in hand to pay it the very next day. Banks are dicks, best to play it safe if you have to deal with them.
