I'm probably waaaayyyy off base...
They can all be called a cock in some form?
a basilisk can be called a cockerel
a goffin is a cockatoo
a cockle mollusk
etc.

edited to add...
cock of the woods for the woodpecker
rooster...cock
cocker spaniel

The woodpecker connection took me a little time to find.
