As for dcnovice's list:

quote:

quote: Green Blue Red Yellow   (What do these colors have in common?)

They're the four colors affected in people with color blindness - is that what you were going for?

Holly --

That's a cool answer and something I didn't know. But it's not the commonality I was seeking. There's a hint in my nick.

Cheers,

DC

they are all found in a rainbow

True, but so are all colors. I was thinking of something else they're all found in.

The list again:

Green
Blue
Red
Yellow

ShreveportMaster -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (11/29/2006 9:41:34 PM)

they are also all found in a bag of skittles...so you can taste the rainbow[:D]

Lorelei115 -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (11/29/2006 9:45:04 PM)

Folks have come up with so many feasible answers that I'm thinking this list has too many possibilities for anyone ever to pinpoint what I was actually thinking, which is that they're all the names of rooms in the White House. (Hence the reference to the hint in my nick.)

Let's try a list that isn't so DC-centric.

Harold Ross
William Shawn
Robert Gottlieb
Tina Brown

Editors of the New Yorker.  And I didn't google.  You are losing your grip, DC.

Lets see...this should be up for a bit:

Folkestone
Malden
Ipswich
Sandwich

Honey, that suitcase went missing back when the airport was still called Idlewild.

Lorelei115 -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (11/29/2006 10:00:01 PM)

Edit: Towns that are in Mass?

Emperor1956 -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (11/29/2006 10:01:55 PM)

Lorelei:  Don't know if they are towns in Maine, but that's not it.

dcnovice:  Honey, that suitcase went missing back when the airport was still called Idlewild.

And dc...you gotta whole new bag *GRIN*  I remember Idlewild...for one specific reason:  Finish this song

There's a holdup in the Bronx
Brooklyn's broken out in fights.
There's a traffic jam in Harlem
That's backed up to Jackson Heights
There's a scout troop short a child
Kruschef's due at IDLEWILD....

Lorelei115 -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (11/29/2006 10:03:15 PM)

They are all actually towns that are in both Mass and the UK, but Im not sure thats the answer you want.

Emperor1956 -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (11/29/2006 10:08:21 PM)

That they are towns is ONLY incidental, dear.  Now with that big hint...go for it.

Car 54, where are you?

(Truth-in advertising laws require me to admit that there was some Googling involved.)

As for your list, here are some wild guesses from a brain too tired to work hard:

-- constituencies represented by members of Blair's cabinet

-- good/bad soccer or cricket or rugby teams

-- county seats

--

Lorelei115 -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (11/29/2006 10:19:21 PM)

Maybe they all host famous fairs or something... I dunno, my brain is slow today. [:D]

DiurnalVampire -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (11/29/2006 10:20:56 PM)

WELL you got "Car 54".  I actually REMEMBER that show.  I'm old *SIGH*.

-- constituencies represented by members of Blair's cabinet  No.  You are about 1000 years too late.

-- good/bad soccer or cricket or rugby teams  I doubt it, tho a lack of proficiency on the sporting field might have been related to other problems that are the correct answers.

-- county seats  Maybe now, not then.

Give up?  I'm going to bed, so I'll answer it in the morning...but be warned, the UK contingent will be here soon and I suspect they'll blow this one up.

<general comment>

For folks who don't want to scroll, here's the latest list courtesy of Emperor1956

Folkestone
Malden
Ipswich
Sandwich

He offered the "big hint" that their being towns is "ONLY incidental."

Get those brains working!

The latest wild guess:

Places mentioned in Ye Domesday Book

(and/or places where the Normans beat the Saxons)

Since this is still a guess, I'll refrain from posting a new quartet.

Kudos to Bita for taking another stab at Holly's quartet. I believe that leaves us with two open ones.

Zammer:

Chow Chow
Bulldog
Basenji
Afghan Hound

(He's looking for something other than "dogs.")

OK...this one was forgotten, no biggie.  These are considered the world's STUPIDEST  Dogs...takes over 100 repetition commands for these dogs to get it right.  The Border Collie is the smartest dog in the world, The Afghan is as dumb as a sack of hammers.
