I have met a variety of people who have misrepresented themselves (read: if you say you are and you are not...IT IS a lie and they are a fraud) in all categories of life, age, sex, location…whatever. I have just shrugged it off. I have gotten to know some who have and usually they have some reason albeit a reason that has not considered what the consequences for such behavior might be. The problem for these people is that a lie you always have to remember, but the truth you are not likely to forget. Maybe they forgot which country they were in??? In all my life I will never understand it. Some think it fun some think it will get them to where they want to be. But if someone is willing to start a relationship on tales and lies they will NEVER have a successful relationship…and they will probably sit there and wonder why too! Just feel thankful that you discovered it quickly. On the other hand (you gotta watch out for that OTHER hand!) I have had people who are very quick to say someone is a fake or fraud that they really have not taken the time or energy to even know what is the truth. Be sure you don’t end up in that category.
