Wintery dry skin - 11/27/2006 5:57:39 PM

i have dry skin anyway, but in the winter it gets even more so, and can be a cause of a lot of discomfort and irritation. This weekend, however, it was worse than usual. We used lube, but  that didn't help the skin around my vagina, which was what caused the most irritation, and after sex, i even bled a little (not much, just like one might from a  small abrasion). So, my question is, is there any  lotion for dry skin down there? i use a special lottion for  very dry skin everywhere else, but it's not to be used around the genitals...

Oh, and shaving of course irritates dry skin...what do y'all use for winter shaving?

When my dominant and I have sex that is a bit too rough for my vagina to handle (damn long distence relationships and things getting too tight down there) I use aloe vera. The same stuff I put on my skin when I have a sunburn. Works wonders for me, just read the back and make sure you aren't allergic to anything.

add some baby oil to the bath water......... if it's good enough for new skin, it's good enough for yours too.

tee tree oil or tee tree oil lotion works great. I have extrememely sensitive skin and that never burns or anything plus if you shave down there it helps with that as well.

Vitamin E cream is really good as well, or even vitamin E oil.

Aloe Vera is nice but feels slimy and smells funny.

Hope that helps with a couple ideas

I would suggest using straight aloe vera gel.  Very mild; also works great on just -shaved skin.

True, but I've found that a person generally has some aloe vera on hand and with this sort of thing, you want some immediate relief! *Grins*

Never used it on the field of battle, but E45 is great for dry skin.

Also there is that Norwegian formula that the trawlermen use for dry, chapped skin from the Arctic Ocean winds - must be over in US too. Its a squeeze tube with a Norwegian flag on it.

I would suggest letting the field of battle regrow over the winter if that helps

The field of battle....lol....well that's new terminology!!!

Not sure what to recommend to the OP. I get very dry skin in the winter but "down there" is the one place I have never had a lack of moisture. I have gotten sore from having a bit too much fun at times, and for that I take some long soaks in the tub.

you might want to try a milk bath.  pour a litre (1/4 gallon approx) of homo milk into a hot bath and soak in it for 5-10 minutes.  if you have a fan in the bathroom you'll want to turn it on.  shower to rinse clean and then  use one of these lotiony solutions.  the milk makes your skin super soft and helps with vaginal health too.

It depends on how close to your vaginal opening that your dry andsore.
From a pharmscist point of view  which i am although nolonger work as such...you should not use anything with perfume and make sure it is for external use.
Something that has an ingrediant for inflamed skin dry skin. When I get dry,  I get itchy so I use a vaginal cream for internal and external use. Here in Oz we can get tham at pharmacies...In  the U.S. check your drugstore or your doc..but stay away from anything with perfume in it.If it smells nice don't use it

In addition to topical moisturizers, why not get a humidifier to increase the level of humidity in the house? Especially since you suffer from dry skin in general.

Have you considered switching lube?  I've found that not all kinds of lubes are similar, but liquid silk (http://sexuality.about.com/od/sextoyreviews/gr/liquidsilk.htm)  in particular feels like lotion in many respects and lasts a decent amount of time.  I found that the more commercial ones (Wet or KY) were just not thick enough or the right consistency to really lubricate me any significant period of time or well enough.

i use a calendula oil that works wonders for those times when things have been too active.    It's gentle and healing and because it's in an oil base, it's moisturizing too.  It's the best thing i've used yet, and it works quickly.

.... *blinkblink* Why would you take aloe vera orally? I have never heard of this practice. For me it goes on sunburns and I break off bits of an aloe vera plant to put on my scraps...

akisha said it... tea tree oil is all i use for shaving.  it's non drying, has a mild and pleasant smell, fights razor bumps better than anything i've found.  i have extremely sensitive skin and found that any oil or lotion that contains fragrance is going to be worse than no lotion at all.  use a super-fatted (Basis) soap instead or Aveeno products without fragrance.

I often have the same problem, and am also intolerant of water..so i tried macadamia oil... it has the same ph level as your skin. Worked wonders for me!

Everyone is different, but tea tree oil is very drying for me and burns like a sonnova......  It makes a great zit stopper though.  How about something like desatin?  Also, have you ever tried a silicon based lube like Eros?

Thanks for the ideas! i went ahead and switched from toilet paper to baby wipes (that helps some), and will try these ideas. The aloe vera sounds like a good idea, and easy since i keep it around for sunburn anyway. i agree with cinnfulhussy, though. Tea tree oil burns like hell for me, and has done no good when i've used it in the past. i'll probably get vaginal cream for sure...because i get itchy when i'm dry, too, and that's part of the problem. Thanks again for all the great advice!
