When we are struck at without reason, we should strike back again very hard, I am sure we should - so hard as to teach the person who struck us never to do it again.
Charlotte Bronte - Jane Eyre.

What do you do? Strike or turn the other cheek?

I was brought up to turn the other cheek - stupid. One lifetime of being bullied later......

I have taught both my kids (girl and boy), if anyone gives them grief, then they should smack the offender really hard in the nose. Result? No bullying for my kids. Mind you, I have also taught them not to bully others or start grief themselves. Its about respect - they know to respect others, and expect others to show respect to them. Sadly though, respect must not only be earned, but for some people it must be taught.

See i find myself in neither position time and time again.
I don't fight back because well i cant handle the aggro and i dont turn the other cheek either. Why? Because i always end up finding myself at fault even if the blame cant be laid at my door.
Sad really !!

well then I guess you have to learn to see it in another light. I cant tell you what that may be, but sometimes looking at things from another perpective gives us insight and a way to act that perhaps, we hadnt thought of before.

Just as there is more than one way to skin a rabbit, there is more than one way to teach respect to those who understand only one language.

This will sound like stupid boasting now, but in my life in business there have been several people who thought they could attack me with impunity. Males of course. Every one of them got his come uppance, and I never laid a finger on them and neither did anyone on my behalf, and no threats or other communications were made of any kind.

There is nothing quite so empowering as to have a 6'6'' man who is twice your size all over, quake and run at the sight of you. I believe this 6'6'' former managing director now drives a taxi for a living, and its not even his car. He laughed me off beforehand, but learned eventually that my stupid boasting was nothing of the sort.

I'm a wonderful friend to have. But dont fuck with me.

Im a believer in turn the other cheek, then kick the back of their knees as they leave :) On the other hands if I can see the situation devolping I shall either run and hide, or do it first and do it hard enough nobody will be getting up sometime soon, which I do is a judgement call that has to be made there and then.

All of the these apply figuratively as well as in the litteral sense

Since no doubt most who reply to this thread will explain how others have aggrieved them and that they have been totally innocent I thought I would balance it up by saying I was a bully at school, if I thought I could get away with it I would steal anything, I let down anyone naive enough to be my friend, I cheat on my wife at every opportunity, I told lies on my CV when applying for a job, I wont support my family. I wont do any house work or cooking, thats what women a for, I never pay for a round of drinks and so far in my life I have been very happy.

Its you lot who try to do the right thing that end up beingmiserable but at least you have the satisfaction of being so bloodie good....you fools.

Marks seeksfemslave off my Christmas gift list.  Sending coal instead.  But give you credit you are an honest _____fill in the blank with your favorite discription.  I have lived by the philosophy that those that seek to hurt me will get theirs eventually.  I don't even have to lift a finger to have that happen just watch as it unfolds.  There again those same folks tend to want me to help them avoid the consequences.  Usually i ignore their pleas however occassionally the satisfaction of helping them and knowing that i am the one doing the rescuing because i want to be is rather nice.  Not sure if that really qualifies as turning the other cheek or being aggressive in hurting those that hurt me.  More just flat out passive agressive ideation that seems to pay off nicely.

There's usually a reason........no matter how flimsy or how related to you it is.

I don't do either.

It's not an *either or* thing.

Diamonddreamlove: like your profile pic. but I have to say it seems that you and your partner have the same attitude to "tidying up " as I do, get some one else to do it, so maybe we are not so far apart after all !!!

I like the sayings "Choose your battles wisely" and "Hit the ball from where it's served". The ultimate choice is yours to make and depends on the benefit you may receive from battle or if there will be more serenity to be gained by taking a more passive approach.

As difficult as it may be...turn the other cheek is the best response because you teach them more by doing so....you teach them that it is better to walk away than to fight.

Charlotte was right for the most part.  I don't believe anyone has the right to perpetrate  physical violence on another. ( non consensual of course)  And i also believe in choosing ones battles. Situations vary and so do solutions,  at least 99% are non  violent.  We all know that "striking" can be  done figuratively..   And sometimes,  the best "strike" is to do nothing at all

If all else fails.....i agree with sleazy...take em out at the knees
