Suggested tips for writing a good profile.

1. if you have an age limit or sexual preferance....STATE IT

2. be colorful in highlighting certain text, such as....age limits, who you do or don't want to have contact you, you're collared, you're married, etc etc.

3. use larger font size for those colored points.

4. put those points right up top where people WON'T have to scroll down to see it.

5. duplicate certain points in your first journal entry.

6. don't whine about how you can't find someone, unless you ARE a natural whiner.

7. be precise in what you want, what you can do, what you expect. but dont be long winded about it. Avoid poetry where someone has to try to figure out just what's in your head.

8. USE spell check....nothing makes you look sloppier than poor spelling and grammar.

9. remember that some people WILL mail you who you don't want to have mail you, but some are just offering nice comments or suggestions

10. come here daily and answer ALL mail even if it's a polite ty but no ty.

From what I have heard, if you don't come here daily to check ALL mail, and answer it, it will take you much longer to find someone.

Hope this helps all the newbies

The tips you listed are good but I couldn't help but notice that there is really nothing in your profile that tells anyone about who you are or what exactly you are looking for.

Yes . . . I've always loved that "do as I say, not as I do" mind set. Personally, I learn guicker by example. Aaahh but that's me.

Oh and btw erin . . . he's not looking for any one. You have to look through his journal to find that out.

Your suggestions are all good. I don't know about that color idea though. Maybe it's just me . . . I have this thing about "rainbow" profiles.

I agree, very creative.

Take care,

Different colours, fonts and font sizes make me hit "next" pretty quickly.

Repetition makes me think the person doesn't remember what they typed 5 minutes ago.

I never read the journal entries.

I don't feel obligated to answer all mail.

I guess it's a good thing I'm not looking, since I'd skip over anyone who followed a good number of these "tips".

I actually agree with Sherri. I'm actually more attracted by a well written profile that doesn't use vegas tactits to overemphasise.

To each their own.

I think that people should write a profile that best reflects them honestly.

One more tip, please use a light background with dark type so it can be read. Black on dark blue doesn't work.

Definately! Big red fonts make my eyes hurt and I don't read it at all. I your color choices make the text hard to read I don't waste my time.

People who boast about being college educated but have a profile full of spelling, grammar and punctuation errors make me want to know what *college* they attended and warn prospective students away.

My worst pet peeve:

Under no circumstances does a "glamour shot" photo look good. Feather boa's and soft lighting tell me that in real life, you're probably a train wreck. (or having a hard time with middle age). Ugh, even worse is the one with the leather jacket with rolled up sleeves and upturned collar. yeeeikes.

No Doubt! It's the "Glamour Shots" that horrify me, and most of them don't look all that Glamorous

I also have a *big problem* with those so-called "rainbow profiles" as they tend to make it more difficult to scan quickly - even worse is the ones with the coloured backgrounds with the badly contrasting colour font.

Mentally, I often picture some of the "rainbow people" to be the same ones in life who put dot the "i"s in their name with hearts, or fill in the "o"s with a smiley face... or use a pen with pink or green ink... Ugh! <wistful sigh>

There is something to be said for a clear, detailed profile in simple black & white - particularly one that expresses what you are and are not looking for in a play partner. I also like it when a profile clearly states at the beginning whether or not they are actively "looking" or just here for friendship -- that way I can easily skip to the next if I am looking for someone who is "available".

I realize it can be hard to make oneself stand out from the crowd, but loud obnoxious colours are not the way to do it in *my* book! I prefer clear well-written content in a profile over garishness any day!

Just my 2ยข worth...

wow
thanks for all the responses. I thought I had it set to receive notification when someone DOES reply, but I didn't get any notices.

just a couple of comments on the comments. yes I'm taken, glad someone noticed.
daughter was molested by her stepdad, he did 23 yrs hard time for it. she vowed that by the time he was released, her and her husband and son would be moved to parts unknown, never to be heard from again because she fears he will hunt her down and kill her. So seeing ME on here, getting a response from her ad from me, sent her running. I'm assuming that's the reason she vanished from collarme.

I didn't even know she was in the lifestyle. she sure didn't know I was...as far as I know.

as for fonts, rainbow profiles as some have called it, that's optional and configurable. it's whatever someone feel in their mind will attract the reader's eyes to certain facts. My main point of that is that you should make sure that the most important fact are visible without scrolling, and if you fee something is vitally important, find a way to highlight that, so that it may get noticed quickly and easily.

as for how I got the nick, I got it from being a fierce protector of ladies in a chatroom I used to go to. I hate it when men just hit on someone for a quick lay, or "hit" them just to be sadistic and abusive.

thanks for the replies
