I have a silly little technical question. I don't want my photo on my profile for privacy reasons. There is however, an image i'd like to appear when i post in the forums. How do i do this?

Can't do it, as far as I know. The only image you're allowed to use as a forum avatar, other than the prefab avatars, is a profile picture. I've been granted special dispensation...

Just put what you want for an avatar as the main photo in your profile.

It won't be approved as a personals photo unless it's a picture of you. I date from before the Flood, i.e. right-wing internet censoring assholes who necessitated all these changes.

You have to use it as your profile photo in order for it to be on the avatar, as far as I know. Like you, I dont like to be plastered for all to see, but consider putting up something obscure...where it catches your essence, but no one would really recognise ya if they know you in real life. Dont freak out if they reject your first one. I had a dark profile shot that I was going to use but I think it was too upclose or something or it came out really really big on CM. Thats another thing Im not clear on. why the photos enlarge when you put them up here. I also tried to put a shot up of my feet with shoes on them, but they rejected that too. I think they want your first pic to be a human pic as opposed to place or object.

Ok, if we can't get anything we want for an avatar, how about those folks with customized forum rankings? Instead of the usual, "kinky, perverted, deranged," and so on, there are a few people with nifty little statements instead, "Hurricane Dread," for example. How does someone get those? I would really like to have "Heretic at Large."

As far as I know, the ones that have the special titles are those who have been members and have posted for quite a while when the membership was fairly low and much more personal.

yup... that would be correct... the forum dinosaurs are the only ones with avatars not supplied by the site. As for personalized tags under the ID, right again... the mods fix those but don't go bugging them to get them or you might subject youself to their own personal style of public humiliation. One more thing I just remembered... those who do have custom avatars, if you edit the forum profile such as location & sometimes signatures... the avatar goes poof

Ok, thanks. The sig line is easy enough to adjust and, while I'm convinced the Mods have an excellent sense of humor, I'd rather run a jackhammer with a hangover than be on the recieving end of it.

That's exactly what I did, but my picture got rejected. I noticed that I've been here even longer than LAM. I guess I should have posted my avatar when I had the opportunity to.
