I made the same point in the thread on spelling, and typing that way was indeed *much* harder!
When this message hit the e-mail rounds a while back, a friend who's a fellow editor made the interesting point that it may help explain why typos get past us sometimes. The mind automatically corrects the word, so the mistake doesn't register.
