DOM68005 -> RE: odd one out? (12/11/2006 11:09:09 AM)

Arne Christer Fuglesang (born March 18, 1957) is the first Swedish born astronaut.  The other astronauts were born in the USA

Cross
Rack
Frame
Iron Maiden

Petruchio -> RE: odd one out? (12/11/2006 12:20:57 PM)

I'd argue frame because (a) it's a relatively modern invention and (b) it's main purpose is to inflict as much pain as possible without killing.

Arguably, iron maiden differs from the others in that it punctures rather than stretch/compress and suffocate.

  • Porthos

Your answer is fine.

I was going for Iron Maiden being metal when the others are usually made of wood.  I was also prepared to accept Iron Maiden as a musical group for the "odd one out".

LadySeraphina -> RE: odd one out? (12/11/2006 12:28:07 PM)

d'Artagnan, he joined the Three Musketeers later on.

-Muskrat
-Otter
-Ferret
-Badger

mnottertail -> RE: odd one out? (12/11/2006 12:32:40 PM)

Badgers are not big into hanging out near water. They burrow mostly under buildings and in woodsy areas, little bastards. the rest are related anyway more or less

Other than that Otter was the only one in the Movie Animal House.......

Petruchio -> RE: odd one out? (12/11/2006 12:40:28 PM)

The muskrat is not a member of the musky Mustelida.

LadySeraphina -> RE: odd one out? (12/11/2006 12:41:51 PM)

Actually, badgers, otters, and ferrets are all mustelids. Muskrats are not. (And ferrets don't swim, they only make messes in water.)

Alternately, you could have gone with the fact that the domestic ferret (no real relation to the black-footed ferret) is the only one that has been domesticated for over 2700 years.

EDITED: Well done, Petruchio.

This one has 5 members, but...

  • Chico
  • Groucho
  • Gummo
  • Harpo
  • Zeppo

mnottertail -> RE: odd one out? (12/11/2006 12:45:03 PM)

Gummo was the only one who went straight after a couple of movies. And played the straight man in them.

Gummo dropped out of the group.

<Editied cause my first answer wasn't quite right.>

Petruchio -> RE: odd one out? (12/11/2006 5:30:45 PM)

Yep, both notter and dcnovice got it!

dcnovice -> RE: odd one out? (12/11/2006 5:42:10 PM)

Britannic
Majestic
Olympic
Titanic

Hint: The answer is not Titanic.

mnottertail -> RE: odd one out? (12/11/2006 7:06:57 PM)

Majestic was not a Cunard? And not built in Belfast, I think.

Majestic is the right answer, but for a different reason. The other three were sister ships.

All four belonged to White Star, hence the -ic ending. Cunard ships (aside from the Queens) ended in -ia.

Your turn, Ron!

ShreveportMaster -> RE: odd one out? (12/12/2006 1:12:59 AM)

Well Ron hasn't posted yet, so I'll pop in.
Hero Sandwich
Submarine Sandwich
Po' Boy
Boston Grinder

Lorelei115 -> RE: odd one out? (12/12/2006 8:18:38 AM)

A po' boy is the only one that originated in the south?

Petruchio -> RE: odd one out? (12/12/2006 8:59:09 AM)

A grinder is served hot, like a Cuban sandwich.

Generally, the others are comprised of cold cuts.

As I think about it, I don't suppose that's a hard and fast rule.

ShreveportMaster -> RE: odd one out? (12/12/2006 10:43:50 AM)

 Give that man a cigar!
Right on, the Grinder is served hot, with the cheese all bubbly and gooey.

Lorelei115 -> RE: odd one out? (12/12/2006 10:50:15 AM)

My chicken parmesan sub is always served hot... well, lukewarm at least, depending on where I get it from.

mnottertail -> RE: odd one out? (12/12/2006 10:53:23 AM)

Are you allowed to do that?  Isn't that against TOS?

Curiously,
Ron
