Difficulties setting up a space - 12/3/2006 8:08:24 AM

I share a flat with a vanilla roommate, and for the last few months my sub has been out of the country for work. Nows I'm expecting him to return and I want to rearrange my room a bit better for him and for sessions.

The problem is my flatmate keeps some clothes in my room because I have a huge wardrobe plus a built-in closet. A couple of times i have used the built in closet as a place for him to sit out his punishments, and it would be a perfect solitary place for him.  O I had this great idea that today I would lug the huge wardrobe out of my room and put it in the spare room.  My flat mate could transfer everything from the closet to it, and then she wouldn't have to knock on my door for clothes all the time. (I told her I was doing this so that my sub and I could have more privacy)

But after 4 hours of taking doors off hinges and pushing this huge wardrobe around, I knew it was futile, and it wouldnt fit into the door to the spare room because of the angles.

In the end, everything had to go back to where it was in the first place.  It's very frustrating!  I know what you're thinking: why don't I just get another flat?  We will eventually, but for the time being we can save a little money this way, and where the flat is, is ideal.

Really, I'm just venting.  But I guess what I wanted to know was if any other Dommes have a hard time creating a place to play, or a dungeon of sorts.

I'd love to hear your experiences or advice.
Thanks,
Lady Marmalade

if the spare room is actually spare could you not leave the wardrobe where it is and use that room to set up a more kinked up space?

Could you negotiate with your flatmate to use the spare room as your dungeon space?

I feel stupid for never thinking of the spare room that way.  I'm not sure how well it would go over with my flatmate. I like to think she doesn't know about what goes on when shes not around and if she did, she wouldn't understand or be terribly supportive.

But you're right, there's nothing stopping me from using the room when she's not at home.

Thanks!  That was an easier solution than I expected.

I was thinking in reverse aparently, I thougth why not store the clothes in the spare room and then you'd have your room with all of the implied privacy that it is YOUR room.

I would venture to guess a spare room would be more of a "shared" area, whereas defining that boundary would be easy (hopefully, with a roommate that has any sense of respect/boundaries to begin with).

Thanks timeoutgurlie,

I think it is the best idea too, except for the damn wardrobe not being able to get in the room. My flatmate and I have been living together for almost 3 years now and there are no respect issues, however I made the mistake of letting her keep some of her clothes in my room, since I had the extra closet space (this is something she had done with her pervious flatmate).

The spare room isn't perfect for sessions since it's technically her dog's room (don't get me started on that), but it will do.  And now that I think about it more, having a less than beautiful and sweet smelling room for my sub to sit out punishments isn't such a bad idea is it?

Thanks again,
Lady Marmalade

Pay a higher share of the rent that includes the extra room. Simple.

Thanks DiannaVesta,

If my flatmate understood this lifestyle I would do it in a heart beat, but I don't think its an option that would work out for me.

But thanks :)

Well if you're sure this is for you and you really want to explore then you need to find her another roommate and you go get you're own space. Its hard to do everything you are going to want to do without your privacy.

In that case, it shouldn't cost much to install a rod or something in this spare/dog room, like you'd have in any closet, have her get some hangers if they're not currently on any and I think for maybe $25-$30 you can call the problem solved?

From the outside, the solution seems easy, maybe it's not so with whatever details we're not aware of, best luck with finding something that works in the meantime

DianaVesta you're right.  I definately need to find a new flat so I can get on with my life.  Unfortunately, that won't happen for at least another 5 months so until then I need to improvise.

Timeoutgurlie, a rod would work, except that with all the dog hair, clothes wouldn't stay clean so long.  But I do need to just go out and get buy a smaller dresser, maybe something I can put together in the room.

Thanks again for the suggestions.  I think we will stay in the bedroom for sessions when she's around and then move into the dog's room for his punishments when she's not home.  I've got lots of plans for when I have my own flat.  I really cannot wait for that day :)
